The Canal Page #4

Synopsis: Film archivist David (Rupert Evans) has been having a rough time lately, as he suspects that his wife Alice (Hannah Hoekstra) has been cheating on him with Alex (Carl Shaaban), one of her work clients. This stress is compounded when David's work partner Claire (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) gives him a reel of to-be-archived footage that shows that his house was the setting for a brutal murder in 1902. Becoming progressively more unsettled and unhinged, David begins to believe that a spectral presence is in his house and ends up following his wife to a nearby canal, where he discovers that she is indeed having an affair with Alex. When Alice goes missing shortly afterwards, David contacts the police- only to become the prime suspect in her disappearance. As the police grow more convinced that David has murdered his wife, he struggles to find proof of his growing suspicion that something otherworldly was instead responsible.

told you, I don't even,

I don't even know what the man looked like.

It doesn't matter, tell them anyway

Once I tell them I followed Alice

into that house, that is it.

Alright?

They'll, they'll just,

they'll just think it was me.

What are you going to do?

I have to find him first.

I just have to.

David!

David!

What?

The old camera.

No, sorry.

I'll do it now.

It's ok.

Do it in the morning.

What's this?

It's just..

just..

unsolved crimes.

Murders that happened

in the city around the canal.

I found it online.

Just going through it.

See if I can find similarities.

David.

You should be taking time to grieve,

not thinking about stuff like this.

I'll find something.

Yeah, I just have to keep looking,

that's all.

Dad, look what we did!

Wow! It's great!

I hope you don't mind.

I know how busy you are.

No, course not.

I totally forgot.

Dad, lift me up,

so I can put the angel on top.

You want to put the angel on top, do you?

Up right the top.

You ready?

Wherever you want..

1-2-3.. come on, reach!

Sorry for disturbing you.

I was thinking that we could make a real effort

with the decorations and stuff this year.

I think it would be good for Billy.

What do you think?

I could buy more lights for the stars.

And yes, I thought I could decorate

all the other rooms and stuff..

make it, like, really Christmassy.

Yeah.

Yeah. That sounds a good idea.

Are you alright?

Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.

Mr Williams.

Night Sophie.

Do you want us to move?

No it's ok, stay where you are.

Hello..

is someone there?

Sophie?

Sorry!

sorry.

Sorry..

Look, could you come to

my room for a second?

Why?

Just for a second.

Don't you... listen! It's really faint.

What is it?

Just listen.

You hear it?

I can't hear anything.

No it's stopped.

There's something behind there.

Maybe it's just a rah.

No no.

It's not a rat.

I can't hear anything.

What can you hear?

It's whispering like someone's praying.

Maybe it's just from the house next door.

No...

the walls are too solid.

Dad what are you doing I was asleep?

Billy..

Billy go to bed.

It's alright.

It's nothing.

Everything's ok.

Take him to bed, will you.

Come on.

We have to go to bed.

I want to stay.

What's Dad doing?

What's wrong?

Billy, go to your room, get dressed.

You and Sophie are getting out of here.

I'm just going to put the belt on you.

There we go.

Alright, I'll see you tomorrow.

I love you.

I'm not sure about this.

I'm sorry, sorry about this.

You're just going to have to trust me.

Alright?

It's not safe here,

It's not safe for you and Billy.

Everything is paid for at the hotel,

they're expecting you

OK:

You can buy anything
