Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike Page #2

Synopsis: In a mythical kingdom, the mighty Imperial Knights harness a magical substance known as Aer to power their weapons and protect humanity from the monsters of the forest. But something strange is afoot. The Aer is somehow changing, causing the wilderness to waste away and stirring the woodland beasts to attack with greater frequency. As danger creeps steadily closer to civilization, two young recruits - Flynn, the rigid son of a fallen hero, and the rebellious and brash Yuri - must ride with their fellow Imperial Knights to distant ruins in hopes of uncovering the truth behind the transforming Aer. Some will not survive the thrilling journey. Some will be betrayed. If Flynn and Yuri cannot overcome their differences and learn to fight together, all will be lost for the people of the realm.

A mandate has arrived from the imperial capital.

You're to attend the ceremony three days from now

celebrating the tenth anniversary of the end of the Great War.

Our job ain't to stand in lines all formal-like.

If only it were that easy to tell that to Headquarters.

If you're going to attend, you'll need to leave soon.

Say, do you know any aer or blastia experts?

I believe there's a laboratory nearby

belonging to a blastia researcher named Rita Mordio.

Tell me where it is.

You plan to go there? What about the ceremony?

I'll send someone else.

But what about His Excellency Commandant Alexei...?!

I deem this far more urgent.

Very well. But there is one issue...

Mordio tends to be a bit... difficult.

You might want to take a present with you...

Our shift's finally over...

It's exhausting, being so on-edge lately.

All right. In that case...

What are you doing?

Let's stop by later!

I'll pass.

Too good to hang out with us?!

He's never going to make it big.

Oh, no. The guild 's here...

Talk about bad timing...

What's a guild?

I'm sure you had them in the lower quarter of the capital, too.

They act like vigilantes and only care about making money.

They're part of a bigger group called the Union,

led by Don Whitehorse.

They're a nasty bunch, basically.

Hold on, Yuri!

The guy wanted to get to the town on the other side of the forest,

so I told 'im to give me all his money up front!

Don't do it, Yuri.

Welcome!

Two Mabo Curries. Oh, and some milk.

Oh, how cute!

Is this little one a member too?

It's not official yet.

Just a minute, okay?

It was a pain in the ass, though,

so I ditched the geezer the minute we got outta the forest!

That wasn't nice. You were supposed to guard him all the way to town.

Scamming people by doing a crappy job and then boozing it up...

You're one upstanding guy, all right.

Yo. You got some real spunk, Mr. Knight.

Let's see you say that to my face this time!

You two-bit thugs are all alike.

Eh?!

Not so close. I'm not looking for a boyfriend.

Why, you little...!

Go stop them, Flynn...

Yuri started it.

It has nothing to do with-

Don't act all big!

I just said this has nothing to do with me!

Whoa...

Here we go!

Who the hell are you?!

Hey!

Bastard!

Enough!

You would dare draw a blade in here?!

B-But, Sir...

Sorry...!

You've got balls. It's too bad you're one of the Empire's dogs.

I'm Merzhom Keida. I run the guild in this town.

Yuri. Yuri Lowell.

Work's all but dried up lately. Has everyone high-strung.

I'll make sure they see their jobs all the way through,

so I personally ask that you excuse their behavior.

Sure thing, Pops!

These monsters lately definitely ain't normal.
