Scene 9

The camera zooms out revealing LALUZ, M.ANU, and their grandson MARDUK in the throne room. MARDUK is playing and running around the throne room, his reaction is not shown.

EA (voiceover) :

LALUZ WAS THE KING; HE TREATED M.ANU AS A SERVANT.

LALUZ (authoritative) : M.ANU, POUR ME A CUP OF WATER.

M.ANU bows and pours water into a cup before handing it to LALUZ. The camera focuses on a stoic M.ANU as he hears LALUZ. LALUZ smiles as he speaks.

LALUZ (condescending): I HAVE GIVEN THE AIR COMMANDER DUTIES TO MY SON, LULU. I WANT YOU BY MY SIDE AT ALL TIMES. (pauses) YOU SEE, M.ANU? THIS IS YOUR PLACE. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL SERVANT.

M.ANU, stands and walks away. As M.ANU walks away, the camera follows him and we see the pain and frustration on his face. He knows that he is more than just a servant, but he is bound to his duty to the king. He takes a deep breath and composes himself, knowing that he must continue to serve with loyalty and honor.

Cut to INT. M.ANU'S CHAMBERS - NIGHT

Scene 10

M.ANU, 32 is shown sitting at his desk, looking at nothing in particular . He hears a knock on the door and looks up to see LULU, 21, LALUZ's son, entering.

LULU (disappointed): M.ANU, I HEARD WHAT MY FÁDRE SAID TO YOU. YOU'RE MORE THAN JUST A SERVANT, YOU'RE MY FRIEND. YOU, ALWAYS MY FRIEND. I KNOW ONE DAY YOU DO GREAT THINGS.  

M.ANU looks at LULU with surprise and gratitude. He nods and smiles at LULU, feeling a glimmer of hope in his heart. LULU leaves. The camera zooms in on a stoic M.ANU.

Cut to EXT. ROYAL GARDEN

Scene 11

Cut to Medium shot of LALUZ and M.ANU in the Royal Garden.

LALUZ (with hidden disdain): M.ANU, I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID. PERHAPS I HAVE BEEN TOO HARSH ON YOU.

M.ANU (humbled):
I APPRECIATE YOUR WORDS, MY LORD.

LALUZ (with hidden disdain): YOU ARE NOT JUST A CUPBEARER. YOU ARE THE FATHER OF EA, AND THAT GIVES YOU A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR KINGDOM. FROM NOW ON, I WILL TREAT YOU WITH THE RESPECT YOU DESERVE.

M.ANU (humbled):
THANK YOU, MY LORD. YOUR WORDS MEAN A LOT TO ME. I KNOW I CAN ASSIST WITH THE FORMULATING . . .  

LALUZ (interrupts authoritatively): M.ANU! DO NOT FORGET YOUR PLACE! !  YOU ARE STILL A SERVANT. (exhausted) BRING ME A GLASS OF WINE.

A close-up of M.ANU as he bows his head in resignation and walks away.  

Scene 12

The camera focuses on his face, his eyes flicker with conflicting emotions as he ponders his role and allegiance. He mutters to himself, almost as if seeking reassurance.

M.ANU (to himself): I UNDERSTAND THE DEPTH OF MY CAPABILITIES AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MY POSITION. BUT ABOVE ALL, MY LOYALTY LIES WITH THE KING.
