BLUE DRAFT - LOCKED - 5/13/18

EXT. EGMONT 1 KEY, FLORIDA - DAY 1

Egmont Key is known for white sand beaches and a dense palm

tree forest. There are multiple abandoned US Naval forts on *

the island.

WE SMASH OPEN ON: The Palm tree canopy and rays of sun

streaking down into the dark understory.

JIB AND TILT DOWN TO: THE SANDY FLOOR.

A woman’s bare foot steps in front of us leaving an

impression in the sand.

TILT UP TO REVEAL: A beautiful woman name KELLY MARSHALL.

She’s out of breath, dirty, and looks frightened. She wears

cutoff shorts, and a tattered bikini top. She nervously looks

at her surroundings. She is being hunted. Her lips are

parched and cracked. Her face is sunburnt and hair matted.

The HISSING sound of an American alligator followed by a *

SWOON of a bird. She listens closely and then hears a man

made wolf cry.

She leaps into a full speed run, trailblazing, with no path

to follow. She trips over a log and lands on a dirt mound

covered in fire ants.

She jumps up, SCREAMING from the pain of the bites, and swats

them off her arms, legs and torso. Another man made wolf cry.

He’s close! She stumbles forward forgetting about the ants

and onto a dirt road. A moment of hope, maybe... She runs.

A few hundred yards later she spots an abandon and ramshackle

house.

KELLY:

Hello! Please help! Please!

There is no one around to hear her pleas.

Then just off the road and near the beach is a fishing shack.

It’s built on wood beams and raised.

KELLY:

Hello! Please help me!

She runs to the shack and then up the steps to the front

door. She fails to notice beside the cabin is a pinewood

coffin on sawhorses that’s just been built. With her fists,

she pounds on the door and then grabs the door handle. The

door is locked.

KELLY:

Please open!

THE CRACKLE OF A RADIO.

COAST GUARD (V.O.)

COAST GUARD DISPATCH (V.O.)

Copy five six five. Status four.

She looks around and finds a rock. She picks it up and slams

the rock on the door handle over and over again.

The handle bends and twists. Suddenly it breaks off and the

door pops open.

Kelly hesitates as if the air from inside spoke whispers

telling her to not enter.

COAST GUARD (V.O.)

Unit five six five, S-5.

She drops the rock, pushes the door open and enters the dimly

lit shack.

2 INT. SHACK - DAY 2

The floor creaks with each step. She only takes two and then

stops. The air is dank and dusty. The room is dark except for

the occasional beam of sunlight.

WE MOVE AROUND INTO AN O.S. AND REVEAL: Polaroid photos hang

from the ceiling by red yarn over an old cot as if a very

large baby mobile. The bed is made as if a recruit from boot

camp tucked the sheets and blanket. The photos are taken of

young women on the beach, or on a boat, or through a window.

Most of them are voyeuristic and not taken with permission.

At the end of the bed is a foot locker.

There is a table in middle of the room with a melted candle

on top. It’s crowded by two chairs and a small food locker.

On the table is a fresh Puffer Fish that’s been carefully

dissected, it’s skin pinned back onto the cork board by small

push pins. Beside that is a blood stained Deba sashimi knife.

COAST GUARD (V.O.)

Unit five six five Ten twenty two.

The radio is in the footlocker. She moves deeper into the

dark shack, as if going underwater and not knowing how long

she can hold her breath. Each step is calculated.

STATIC. Then silence.

She kneels in front of the footlocker and realizes it’s

locked by a padlock. Tears smear her mascara.

KELLY:

No... NO.

COAST GUARD (V.O.)

Unit five six five ten thirty three

IC two has been spotted on a white

Beachcraft.

KELLY:

NO!!

(repeat)

She bangs on the lid of the locker with her fists repeatedly.

And with one last big hit and SCREAM she stops, defeated and

her head hung low.

The wind whistles through the breezy cabin. She slowly raises

her eyes and a photo hung from yarn slowly turns towards her.

The Polaroid photo is of HER, on the beach, smiling.

She’s about to SCREAM, when a gnarly man’s hand comes from

behind her and grips her mouth closed. The other hand sticks

a syringe into her neck and injects her with a black liquid.

Kelly bites the man’s hand. The unseen assailant (Javier)

cries out and pulls the syringe from her neck. Kelly elbows

him in the chest knocking him back into a dark corner.

She uses the momentary freedom to scurry out of the cabin.

WE TILT UP TO THE PHOTO OF KELLEY SPINNING AROUND AND AROUND.

EXT. BEACH - 3 SHORELINE - SUNSET 3

She runs toward the shore and then stops. There, on the

water, about a half mile off shore is a yacht floating pass.

KELLY:

Help. HELP!

3.

She stumbles around, her legs like jello but she’s not going

to miss the boat. With each step, her motor skills are under

attacked by the poison.

She makes it to the water’s edge and pushes into the surf.

KELLY:

HEY! HELP!

(repeat)

They’re not stopping but she’s not letting the yacht out of

her sight. She continues out into the ocean.

4 EXT. OCEAN - SUNSET 4

The water becomes too deep for her to walk and Kelly swims.

However, with each stroke her movement becomes strained. The

yacht is only a couple hundred yards away.

This is her last effort, there are only two options, get to

the boat or die.

Her arms start to cramp up and she YELLS in pain. Her legs *

cramp up. And while she float unable to move she’s caught up

in the current. She’s quickly moved away from the shore but

also away from the boat.

KELLY:

(helpless)

Please. Don’t go.

She struggles using the last bit of energy to try and pull

herself toward the yacht but it’s all in vain. She’s frozen.

The current has her and she’s being whisked out to sea.

She watches her hand curl up into a painful ball of tense

muscles. She lets out one last SCREAM before sinking into the

dark water.

5 INT. OCEAN - UNDERWATER - DAY 5

With her mouth open crying a silent scream, Kelly looks up at

the sunlight that moves away from her as she sinks out of

sight.

6 EXT. BEACH - SHORELINE - DAY 6

Javier runs out into the water and searches for her. *

Thrashing about in the water but she’s no where to be found. *

Kelly is nowhere to be seen. *

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 4.

On the yacht a young man drunkly stumbles out onto the deck

with a young lady. They’ve been drinking and happy as they

kiss.

CLOSE UP:
Javier’s eyes.

The man on the yacht waves at Javier who isn’t inclined to

return the jester. Instead he pulls out a satellite phone and

dials.

JAVIER:

Inform Senior Rodriguez, I lost the

asset. Tell him not to worry. I’ll

find another. I always do.

He hangs up and then walks out of frame.

WE DRONE OUT OVER THE OCEAN, PASS THE YACHT AND UP INTO THE

SKY REVEALING A RED SUNSET OVER THE OCEAN’S WATER.

THE MUSIC BUILDS.

SUPERIMPOSE:
ADRIFT.

CUT TO:

EXT. BUTCHER’S 7 BLOCK - DAY 7

A pile of garbage being dumped out

PULL BACK TO REVEAL: A restaurant front called The Butcher’s

Block. Still under construction, this high end restaurant

will be a nice addition to the Dallas, Texas urban block

that’s undergoing a gentrification. Work trucks are parked

out front and a few laborers walk out from inside with their

tools.

8 INT. BUTCHER'S BLOCK - DAY 8

It’s under construction. MEN paint while others work on

electrical wiring. SAMANTHA MCCARTHY (36), walks out from the

kitchen along with her designer, NANCY and two contractors,

one of them is PAUL.

SAMANTHA:

This color palette isn’t working.

NANCY:

Samantha, I sent you these colors

and we didn’t hear back so I

thought...

5.

SAMANTHA:

Nancy. I love you. I really do. But

I hired you to fulfill my requests.

Not presume them. I needed more

time to think about the colors. And

that was not a signal to move

forward. Please. Get some primer

and start over.

PAUL:

That’s a change order.

NANCY:

Paul is that all you can say?

PAUL:

When you change something. It’s a

change order, I have to bill for

it.

SAMANTHA:

Send the “change order” to my

office and I will approve IF it’s

reasonable. We are out of time. In

six weeks the doors to my new

restaurant are supposed to open and

every day that you delayed that

date is out of your pockets, not

mine.

PAUL:

That’s not fair.

NANCY:

Read your contract. It’s what we

agreed to.

PAUL:

It’s still not fair.

NANCY:

Then you shouldn’t have signed the

deal.

Samantha spots a moment to slip away.

SAMANTHA:

I’ll leave you two to figure this

out.

Samantha walks out.

NANCY:

Samantha wait!

6.

EXT. BUTCHER'S 9 BLOCK - DAY 9

Samantha strides toward a convertible sports car.

SAMANTHA:

I’m late.

NANCY:

It will only take a minute.

SAMANTHA:

Okay.

NANCY:

I... I want to make sure you’re

okay... I mean -- with the new

restaurant. And... Well David and *

then Barbara- *

SAMANTHA:

-Nancy. You’re so sweet. But I’m

fine. It’s best for us to take a

time out. And Barbara was a poison

to my life.

NANCY:

But-

SAMANTHA:

-She made a pass at my husband and

that was the final straw.

NANCY:

She’s going to the labor board.

SAMANTHA:

Let her. I was within my rights to

fire her. Now Nancy, I’m going to

pick up my daughter and then I’m

going to escape all of this for a

week and center my inner peace. So

unless there is an emergency-

She starts the car.

SAMANTHA:

-Don’t call.

She backs out and pulls away with haste.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 7.

INT. 10 SPORTS CAR - DAY 10

Samantha lowers the top and let’s loose her hair. She’s had

enough with stress and it’s time to let it go.

11 EXT. DOWNTOWN STREET - DAY 11

The sports car zooms past us.

12 EXT. HIGH SCHOOL - DAY 12

Standing in a group of friends ELLIE MCCARTHY (18), just like

any teen she’s already ‘grown up’ but not really.

Samantha pulls up and honks. Ellie turns around and rolls her

eyes. She says good-bye to her friends and then hustles over

to the car.

ELLIE:

Hi, mom.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s go! We have a plane to catch!

ELLIE:

Okay. OKAY!

Ellie gets in and closes the door.

SAMANTHA:

You ready?

ELLIE:

Yes.

SAMANTHA:

Okay then. --- SPRING BREAK HERE WE

COME!

Samantha throws it into drive and speeds away.

13 INT. SPORTS CAR - DAY 13

Ellie laughs at her youthful mother’s behavior.

ELLIE:

Go mom.

She starts texting.

8.

SAMANTHA:

What? -- I really need this.

Opening my second restaurant has

been a nightmare...

Her phone RINGS. She identifies it’s DAVID and answers the

phone via bluetooth.

SAMANTHA:

Hello, David.

DAVID:

Sam, what is going on? Ellie just

texted me that you’re still going

to St. Petes?

Samantha looks at Ellie who slowly puts away her phone.

INTERCUT:

INT. DOCTOR’S 14 OFFICE - DAY 14

DR. DAVID MCCARTHY (37) stands outside a patient room the

door is cracked open and inside are A YOUNG BOY AND TERESA.

DAVID:

I didn’t think you were still

considering-

SAMANTHA:

-Yes, David. We made a promise and

I’ve already paid for the trip.

DAVID:

That was before-

(whisper)

-our separation.

SAMANTHA:

And why would that change my

promise?

DAVID:

I don’t know I just thought we

would share spring break with

Ellie...

SAMANTHA:

The Texas Tech student/parent walk

through is next week. You will have

time with her then.

9.

DAVID:

I thought Ellie hadn’t made up her *

mind which college? Let her start *

at TCUEllie

subtly nods.

SAMANTHA:

-TCU isn’t right for her-

DAVID:

-That’s where I started! It’s a

perfectly good school and then she

can choose a medical school if she

wants-

SAMANTHA:

-She wants to live in the dorms.

DAVID:

I’d rather she be home.

ELLIE:

Guys can you stop talking about me

as if I wasn’t here?

BEAT.

DAVID:

Hello, Ellie. How was school?

ELLIE:

Fine.

DAVID:

Sam please take me off speaker.

She picks up the phone and puts it to her ear.

SAMANTHA:

I’m driving. This is dangerous.

DAVID:

You should have told me that you

were still going.

SAMANTHA:

Yes. I should have told you. I’m

sorry.

DAVID:

It’s okay.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 10.

There is a crash behind David. The boy has pushed over the

glass jars that contain the tongue depressors and ear scope

attachments.

TERESA:

I’m so sorry.

DAVID:

I’ve got to go.

SAMANTHA:

Of course. I lo...

She catches herself.

DAVID:

What?

SAMANTHA:

I... Ah. -- Good bye.

Samantha hangs up.

Deflated, David goes back into the patient room.

INT. 15 SPORTS CAR - DAY 15

Samantha stares for a long moment thinking about the call.

ELLIE:

Mom?

SAMANTHA:

Yeah.

ELLIE:

Maybe you shouldn’t be so hard on

him.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie. He cheated.

ELLIE:

Not technically. They didn’t even

kiss.

SAMANTHA:

The intention was there.

ELLIE:

I’m not so sure.

11.

SAMANTHA:

Why are you taking his side?

ELLIE:

I...

SAMANTHA:

Never mind. We’re not going to talk

about this. WE are going to have

fun.

ELLIE:

Okay. Sure.

She drives through the intersection.

EXT. ST. 16 PETE’S BEACH - DAY 16

MONTAGE:
All the sights and sounds of St. Pete’s Beach during

spring break.

Ladies on the beach. Men play frisbee. Parties. It’s spring

break.

17 EXT. DON CESAR HOTEL - DAY 17

A luxury sedan pulls up and the bellhop opens the back door.

Samantha steps out. She’s casually dressed and lets out a *

long sigh. Ellie walks up beside her.

ELLIE:

Nice place.

SAMANTHA:

This Don CeSar. It’s the best on

the beach. Come on.

They walk inside.

18 INT. DON CESAR HOTEL - LOBBY - DAY 18

The lobby is busy.

WE PUSH ON:
Javier. He’s cleaned up nicely and looks the role

of a debonair kind of guy with a handsome tan and attractive

smile. He wears aviator sunglasses and has long bleach-blond

hair tied back in a pony tail. He wears cut off shorts, half

opened faded short sleeve shirt and deck shoes. Now he’s a

perfect cross of Matthew McConaughey and Leo DiCaprio. A

little bit of southern with a whole lot of charm.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 12.

He sits across from a young couple who flip through a travel

pamphlet promoting boat tours. The man’s name is TODD (40)

and the woman is ANNIE (35).

Javier is all eyes for Annie.

TODD:

We heard you were the best guide

around and we want to dive on the

Spiegel Grove.

JAVIER:

You mind keeping that down. I’m not

supposed to solicit in the hotel.

TODD:

Sorry.

JAVIER:

There’s some strong currents down

there. Sure you can handle

yourself?

TODD:

We’re both SSI Advanced.

JAVIER:

Well then, okay. It’s five hundred.

-Each.

He spots Samantha and Ellie at the check in. WE CAN SEE the

reflection of Samantha in his sunglasses. She has all the

same features as Kelly. They’re nearly a doppelgänger.

Javier slowly pulls off his sunglasses so he can get a clear

look at Samantha.

Samantha grabs the room’s key-cards from the hostess, and

then gives one to Ellie as they walk past Javier.

Todd puts out his hand.

TODD:

Deal.

Javier leaves him hanging for a moment as he follows

Samantha.

Todd and Anna glance at each other. Javier turns back to Todd

and lands the handshake.

13.

JAVIER:

Tomorrow morning six am sharp.

Don’t be late there’s a very small

dive window. Oh, and I only take

cash. Fifty percent down. --

Please.

Todd pulls a hanging traveler’s wallet from around his neck

and peels off five hundred.

JAVIER:

Clever necklace thing. I’ve only

seen cops wear those. You know with

the badge.

Todd hesitates.

TODD:

Sharper Image.

JAVIER:

I might order one.

Todd pulls out the cash in hundred dollar bills. Javier

snatches the cash.

JAVIER:

Be seeing ya soon.

They leave. Javier turns and watches Samantha and Ellie peck

around in the gift shop. He pulls off his sunglasses and

watches her closely.

A young man works at the cash register. This is IAN (21).

He’s all smiles.

INT. DON CESAR HOTEL 19 - GIFT SHOP - DAY 19

Ellie unloads some snacks onto the counter while Samantha

peruses the gift shop. Ian scans the items.

IAN:

Welcome to the Don Cesar. You just

get in?

ELLIE:

Yep. Spring break.

IAN:

Where from?

ELLIE:

Dallas.

14.

IAN:

Texas. I applied to college there.

Longhorns.

ELLIE:

No way. I was just accepted.

IAN:

Me too. But the tuition is so

expensive.

SAMANTHA:

Did you look into a Pell Grant?

IAN:

No... IELLIE

-You should. They’re easy to get.

We might even have the same

classes.

IAN:

Yeah, that’d be cool. First time in

St. Petes?

ELLIE:

Yep.

IAN:

Well if you need someone to show

you around let me know.

ELLIE:

Okay. Sounds good.

Ian and Ellie are totally into each other; it’s all smiles

and eye contact.

IAN:

We also rent scuba or snorkel gear,

here in the gift shop.

Ian looks up and spots Javier watching. Ian’s smile fades.

Javier grins. Javier gives him an ever so slight nod. Ian

shakes his head no. Javier’s grin melts as he give Ian one

last nod and then strides out.

SAMANTHA:

And these two things.

Samantha sets down two bottles of wine.

15.

IAN:

Okay.

Javier scans the bottles and then hits enter.

IAN:

That’ll be Sixty-five twenty.

Samantha hands him a crisp hundred. Ian makes change.

IAN:

Thank you.

ELLIE:

See you around?

IAN:

You can count on it. *

INT. DON CESAR HOTEL 20 - GUEST ROOM - DAY 20

Samantha has changed and now washes her hands. She catches

herself looking at her wedding ring.

ELLIE (O.S.)

Should we order room service.

BEAT.

Samantha takes off the ring.

SAMANTHA:

No. I think we should go out!

She leaves the bathroom and WE PUSH ON THE RING.

21 EXT. STREET - EVENING 21

In a bicycle taxi, Samantha and Ellie sit as it weaves

through spring break traffic.

ELLIE:

This is crazy!

SAMANTHA:

I know!

Samantha spots an electronic store.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s go shopping.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 16.

INT. DON CESAR HOTEL 22 - LOBBY - NIGHT 22

The women walk in with shopping bags carried by two BELLHOPS.

Ellie fawns after her new Apple IWatch.

ELLIE:

I love the watch. Thank you so

much! I’m going to call Dad.

SAMANTHA:

(nod to the bar)

I’m going to pop in here while you

do that.

Ellie is preoccupied by her watch as she walks away. Samantha

pauses for a moment and then walks into the bar.

23 INT./EXT. DON CESAR HOTEL - BAR - NIGHT 23

The bar is an indoor-outdoor kind of place with tiki torches

and love birds.

Samantha finds a place at the bar on the outdoor side with a

great view of the beach. Moonlight shimmers off the water.

Sitting at a dark table under a flickering tiki torch is

Javier. He spots Samantha. A grin creeps on his face. Game

on.

BARTENDER:

What can I get you?

SAMANTHA:

Something tropical.

The Bartender unfolds a menu.

SAMANTHA:

Oh look at that. Okay. How about a

Bahama Mama?

The bartender walks away.

Samantha stares out at the ocean, it’s finally a moment of

peace.

Deep thoughts start to dampen the mood as a slow romantic

song plays on the bar’s PA. Her smile fades and the

waterworks trickle. She’s alone. Like, really alone.

BARTENDER:

Here you go.

17.

Samantha, tears welled in her eyes...

SAMANTHA:

Um. You know I forgot how much I

hate drinking alone so... I... I’m

gonna pass. Sorry. I’ll pay for the

dri...

JAVIER (O.S.)

Excuse me.

Javier looks amazing. His hair pulled back, short sleeve

button up flowing in the wind, dress slacks, boat shoes. He’s

the poster boy for a sexy night on a yacht.

JAVIER:

It’s a crime to waste a perfectly

good drink.

SAMANTHA:

Is it?

JAVIER:

Now I would never lie to you. --

May I?

(motion for the stool next

to her)

Samantha hesitates...

SAMANTHA:

Uh... Yes. Okay.

JAVIER:

(to Bartender)

El Dorado Rum. Neat. Thank you.

Bartender walks away.

JAVIER:

Javier LeBlanc.

He holds out a hand that Samantha takes.

SAMANTHA:

Samantha McCarthy.

Javier stares into her eyes.

JAVIER:

West Texas.

18.

SAMANTHA:

(impressed)

Originally.

Javier’s smile holds a magic to it, hypnotic even. The

bartender drops off the rum. He holds it up for a toast.

JAVIER:

Don’t die of love; in Heaven above.

Or hell, they’ll not endure you;

Why look so glum? When Doctor Rum

is waiting to cure you. -- Cheers.

Samantha’s very intrigued by this sophisticated man. She

toasts followed by a long stare and even longer drink.

PRE-LAPSE:
LAUGHING.

INT./EXT. DON CESAR 24 HOTEL - BAR - NIGHT 24

Sitting at a table with a candle between them are Javier and

Samantha. They receive another round from the waitress;

Samantha is giggly.

JAVIER:

A resturantur?

SAMANTHA:

Yes. I own two myself. *

JAVIER:

No partners?

SAMANTHA:

No. I work better alone. My mother

taught me to cook at a young age

and the one thing I loved about it

was, I could do it on my own. I

didn’t need help. -- And what is it

you do?

JAVIER:

Whatever pays me the most. I own a

sail boat and charter sight seeing

trips, odd jobs, anything that pays

well.

SAMANTHA:

An opportunist.

JAVIER:

Hear, hear!

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 19.

He drinks.

JAVIER:

You intrigue me Samantha. You are

independent. -- Most men hate that.

They like to be the big shot, but

there are those whom seek out women

like you.

SAMANTHA:

And why is that?

He leans forward and touches her hand.

JAVIER:

They want to break you.

She pulls her hand away. A table near them has food

delivered. One of the dishes is a plate of Etoufee.

SAMANTHA:

Étoufée. Smells heavenly.

On the bar television the news comes on with the big story

about a young woman named Kelly and her boyfriend, Alex. A *

photo of Kelly and Alex inserts on the screen and text *

informs us that they’ve recently disappeared while on

vacation.

Samantha’s back is to the TV and has no idea that the woman

on the screen has an uncanny resemblance to her.

Javier eyes the report for a moment and then looks at

Samantha. He grins.

JAVIER:

May I treat you to dinner?

SAMANTHA:

I ate earlier with my-

JAVIER:

-daughter. I was in the lobby when

you came in. She’s beautiful. --

How old is she?

SAMANTHA:

Just turned eighteen.

JAVIER:

And your husband?

He motions to the ring finger tan.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 20.

SAMANTHA:

Oh. I... We’re...

(sigh)

We’re separating and probably going

to move on. -- And you? Any...

JAVIER:

No. No one.

Javier spots that the bartender watches the news report with

abated interest.

On the new report we see a composite sketch of the man who

was last seen with Kelly. The drawing is at best an

unflattering version of Javier. Samantha’s back is to the

television but Javier has a long look at the sketch and his

demeanor quickly changes from calm to nervous and jittery.

JAVIER:

It’s a full moon, are you up for a

walk?

CUT TO:

The bartender looks at the photo very closely and then turns

looking where Javier once sat. He’s gone and so is Samantha

The bartender shakes her head and goes back to work.

EXT. DON CESAR HOTEL 25 - GROUNDS - NIGHT 25

From behind a tree, Ian watches Javier and Samantha. They

walk toward the marina.

26 INT. DON CESAR HOTEL - GUEST ROOM - NIGHT 26

Ellie comes out of the bathroom wearing a robe and her hair

wrapped in a towel. She’s on the phone. Ellie looks at the

clock.

ELLIE:

Hey Shelly. I should go. My Mom’s

been gone for like two hours. Nah,

I’m sure it’s fine. She’s in the

bar. Okay.

Ellie hangs up and pulls off the towel around her hair and

returns to the bathroom to get dressed.

21.

EXT. DON CESAR HOTEL 27 - BEACH - NIGHT 27

Moonlight shimmers off the water as Samantha and Javier walk

along the shoreline. Javier carries her sandals and purse, a

real gentleman.

SAMANTHA:

(drunk)

-and then I find him in the

restaurant’s pantry with my GM. She

initiated all this but he went

along. He was trying to stop her

when I arrived so I’ll give him

that-

JAVIER:

-A cheat is never anything more

than a cheat.

A PHOTOGRAPHER stops them.

PHOTOGRAPHER:

How about a photo? The moon is

perfect.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s do it.

She pulls her wallet from her purse standing very close to

Javier. With out her noticing, he smells her hair.

He puts on sunglasses and then pulls her in tight.

PHOTOGRAPHER:

One, two, three...

The camera flashes. Javier, sensing little resistance, holds

her tightly for a moment longer. She turns toward him and

ends up nose to nose with him. They stare into each other’s

eyes.

The moon, the distant music, the waves, romance.

The photographer takes another photo of them. Samantha grins

and then reluctantly moves out of Javier’s grasp. The

photographer takes one of just Samantha.

SAMANTHA:

Oh. Okay.

PHOTOGRAPHER:

Perfect.

He holds out the photos and Samantha takes them.

22.

JAVIER:

Thank you.

Javier palms the photographer a hundred dollar bill.

JAVIER:

May I have that one?

He points at the single photo of Samantha.

JAVIER:

Such a marvelous moment. I’d like a

keep sake.

SAMANTHA:

Okay. One for you and one for me.

She slips one of them in her dress’s pocket and they continue

to walk.

INT./EXT. DON CESAR 28 HOTEL - BAR - NIGHT 28

Ellie walks into the bar and looks around.

IAN (O.S.)

I’ll need to see ID.

Ellie turns to find Ian behind her.

ELLIE:

Oh hi. I’m looking for my mom.

IAN:

I haven’t seen her. Hey. I... Uh...

Would you like a drink?

ELLIE:

JAVIER *

My charter.

He points at an Ocean Star 38, a sailboat that’s 38’ long

with a single mast. It’s in great shape.

SAMANTHA:

Wow, it’s beautiful.

JAVIER:

Yes she is... I have this bottle of

Rum that a pirate gave me-

SAMANTHA:

-Pirate? Now you’re lying.

JAVIER:

No ma’am. Honest to god pirate from

Cuba and his bootleg Rum is so *

smooth. *

Javier holds out his hand.

JAVIER:

Welcome aboard.

Samantha hesitates and then accepts his hand and steps onto

the boat.

IAN:

Originally, New Orleans.

ELLIE:

Originally?

IAN:

My mother passed when I was young

and since I’ve moved around a lot.

ELLIE:

Oh. I’m sorry for your loss.

BEAT.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 24.

IAN:

Why would you say that to me?

ELLIE:

Because it’s the right thing to

say. -- Hasn’t anyone told you that

before?

IAN:

I don’t really talk about her. --

You’re lucky you have your mom.

ELLIE:

Yeah. Well. She’s going through a

mid life crisis.

Ian’s eyes move over Ellie’s perfect curves. He wants her.

EXT. SAIL 31 BOAT - DECK - NIGHT 31

Samantha finishes off the rum and licks her lips, it’s very

good.

SAMANTHA:

The Rum it was magnificent.

JAVIER:

SAMANTHA:

Just a splash and then I have to

dash.

32 INT./EXT. DON CESAR HOTEL - BAR - NIGHT 32

Ellie laughs.

ELLIE:

Three days?

IAN:

I thought I was dead.

ELLIE:

I don’t believe it! Who left you on

IAN:

My uh... Well a friend.

25.

ELLIE:

I hope you let him have one when

you got back.

IAN:

I should have. -- You’re smile is

sexy.

ELLIE:

Thank you.

She finishes her drink.

ELLIE:

It’s late. I should find my mother.

IAN:

Oh. Yeah. -- She went out to the

marina with a guy.

ELLIE:

A guy? Why didn’t you mention that *

earlier? *

IAN:

I wanted to talk with you.

BEAT.

IAN:

This way.

They walk out onto the beach.

Its dark and Ellie grabs Ian’s hand.

EXT. SAIL 33 BOAT - DECK - NIGHT 33

Samantha is very drunk and LAUGHING.

JAVIER:

One more round.

SAMANTHA:

I should be going.

JAVIER:

But the night is young.

SAMANTHA:

And I am old.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 26.

JAVIER:

Old is not an age it’s all in your

mind.

He spills a little refilling her glass.

SAMANTHA:

No No No. I can’t please. Next

time?

JAVIER:

How about a day trip. Tomorrow.

Down the coast.

He’s making his move. The sexual tension is thick.

SAMANTHA:

I’m a land lubber. Boats. Oceans.

Sharks. Not my thing.

JAVIER:

Have you seen a sunset while on the

Gulf? *

SAMANTHA:

Pictures suit me fine.

JAVIER:

And where’s the adventure in that?

He’s seducing her and succeeding.

JAVIER:

Sunset on the sea is the closest to

heaven you will ever be.

SAMANTHA:

Really?

He moves for a kiss.

JAVIER:

I would never lie to you.

At the moment before lips touch...

ELLIE (O.S.)

MOM!

Samantha looks away and smiles at the approaching Ellie and

Ian.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie!

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 27.

ELLIE:

What are you doing?

JAVIER:

I was showing your mother my

sailboat.

ELLIE:

I’ve never been on one. I hear

sailing on the ocean is amazing.

JAVIER:

(to Samantha)

That settles it, now we must go

tomorrow.

SAMANTHA:

But we already have plans-

IAN:

-Yes the cabana you booked will be

ready at noon.

SAMANTHA:

You see.

ELLIE:

A cabana? Are you nuts? -- Come on,

Mom. I’ve never been on the ocean,

let alone a sailboat. Please?

JAVIER:

I’ll take you to my favorite reef

and we can snorkel. Dolphin,

Rainbow fish, my treat.

ELLIE:

Please mom?

SAMANTHA:

(sigh)

Okay. Fine. But, I’ll bring wine

and lunch. My gift for taking us

out.

JAVIER:

Of course.

Javier and Samantha hug.

JAVIER:

High noon, I’ll be here waiting.

28.

SAMANTHA:

Goodnight.

Samantha and Ellie walk away.

JAVIER:

Goodnight.

SAMANTHA:

And good night to you Ian. Thank

you for watching Ellie.

IAN:

Goodnight.

Ellie kisses him on the cheek.

ELLIE:

I’ll call you once we’re back.

She slips her phone number into his hand.

ELLIE:

Bye.

The men watch them for a moment, and then Ian looks back at

Javier. He hesitates, and then walks away.

WE JIB DOWN TO REVEAL THE SAIL BOAT’S NAME IS: “SIROCCO”.

INT. HOTEL 34 ROOM - MORNING 34

Samantha slowly opens her eyes. The sun is too bright for the

hangover but the view of the beach is outstanding.

HER POV changes from the bright window to a huge bouquet of

flowers and under them are the photos of her and Javier.

Plugged into the wall is her phone. END POV.

SAMANTHA:

Oh god. What did I do?

She gets up leaving behind her phone.

35 EXT. HOTEL CAFE - MORNING 35

Ellie picks fruit from the all-you-can-eat buffet and walks

back to the table where WE ANGLE ON: Samantha. She wears

sunglasses and drinks a coffee.

ELLIE:

You okay?

29.

SAMANTHA:

Those flowers in my room. Where did

they come from?

ELLIE:

A bell boy. -- I put them on your

nightstand.

SAMANTHA:

Was there a card?

ELLIE:

Nope.

SAMANTHA:

And I came home with you last

night?

ELLIE:

Yes.

SAMANTHA:

I think we should skip this boat

thing... You know what? I’m feeling

kind of sea sick already.

ELLIE:

Noooo. I so looking forward to it.

SAMANTHA:

Are you sure?

ELLIE:

I want to swim with dolphins. I’ve

never seen a dolphin in the ocean.

SAMANTHA:

What about sharks?

ELLIE:

Those too. Just not up close...

Ellie takes a bite of her toast.

WAITRESS:

Here you go.

She places down a huge Bloody Mary loaded with fresh veggies

along the rim.

ELLIE:

Mom. -- For breakfast?

30.

SAMANTHA:

Trust me, this is the best cure for

a hangover and this one is

impressive.

Samantha moves a few accoutrements around and discovers the

straw. She takes a sip.

SAMANTHA:

And so good.

EXT. DON CESAR 36 HOTEL - BEACH - DAY 36

The women walk toward the pier each carries a day bag filled

She answers with the watch.

ELLIE:

Hello?

DAVID:

ELLIE:

Hi, Dad.

DAVID:

SAMANTHA:

We’re fine, David.

DAVID:

SAMANTHA:

Yes, it’s me. We’re doing fine.

Ellie is fine. Everything is fine.

DAVID:

You talk like that when you’ve been

drinking... Bloody Mary’s...

ELLIE:

Ye-

31.

SAMANTHA:

(cut her off)

-Well clearly I need another one to

deal with your stuff this early in

the morning.

DAVID:

It’s almost noon there.

SAMANTHA:

Exactly.

ELLIE:

Mom.

Ellie switches off the watch to the phone for more privacy.

ELLIE:

Kinda.

DAVID:

Did she like the flowers?

ELLIE:

It was you?

DAVID:

Who else would send her flowers?

ELLIE:

I don’t know Dad, this whole thing

is confusing.

32.

DAVID:

Sorry to put you in the middle. --

Look, this separation isn’t

right... I miss my family.

Ellie looks at Samantha who trudges through the sand a couple

steps in front of her.

DAVID:

I’d like to repair things. I know I

screwed up and-

ELLIE:

-Dad. You need to tell Mom this.

Javier takes the bags from Samantha.

DAVID:

Who’s that?

ELLIE:

Oh the charter captain.

Ellie turns away from them as Javier sneaks a kiss on

Samantha’s cheek. She fluffs it up for David’s sake.

SAMANTHA:

How sweet. -- I brought wine and

croquettes for lunch.

JAVIER:

Perfect.

33.

Ellie distances herself.

ELLIE:

We’re going on a charter. We’ll be

back before dark.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s go Ellie!

ELLIE:

I’ve got to go.

DAVID:

Okay. Have fu...

Ellie hangs up.

ELLIE:

I’m coming! I’m coming!

She walks onto the deck.

ELLIE:

Hi.

JAVIER:

Hey.

He pulls out a cellphone and dials moving away from the

ladies.

JAVIER:

(hushed)

Where are you? I need fuel. -- What

do you mean the truck broke down? *

He watches as the ladies wobble getting on the boat’s deck.

SAMANTHA:

Be careful. We don’t have sea legs.

JAVIER:

(hushed)

Damn it! You’re screwing up

everything. -- Yeah when I find

you, you’ll be sorry. -- HEY! You

watch my back. Anything goes sour

on land, you take care of it. What?

What?! Okay. FINE. You can have her

after the job is done. Ellie’s all *

yours pal. Now do as I SAY!

Understood.

Javier hangs up. It takes a few moments for him to calm down.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 34.

SAMANTHA:

Everything okay?

He boards the boat.

JAVIER:

Oh yeah. It’s be a crazy day and *

it’s only noon. -You all ready to *

sail? -Okay a few things. *

They stare at him... He’s not as smooth as yesterday,

something has him frazzled.

JAVIER:

The head- er, bathroom is down

below on the right and the galley.

Oh. The bedrooms are off limits.

And lifejackets are under the seats

and well... -- Any questions before

we cast off?

SAMANTHA:

Ah... A cork screw?

JAVIER:

In the galley.

Samantha steps down into the cabin as Javier prepares to cast

off. He drops the bow rope and then goes to the stern. Unties

that rope and pushes off the dock.

JAVIER:

And away we go.

They float out into the harbor.

EXT. DON CESAR 39 HOTEL - BEACH - DAY 39

From the shoreline we see a pair of hands setting down a cell

phone, and then picking up binoculars. Ian brings the

binoculars to his eyes where he peers out at the sail boat

leaving the dock.

His face is twisted with anger. He turns and strides away.

40 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DAY 40

Javier moves from the stern to the controls. He turns a key

and the small onboard engine turns over.

ELLIE:

I thought it was a sailboat?

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 35.

JAVIER:

We use the motor to assist us going

in and out of the harbor, and

whenever the wind dies down.

He pushes the accelerator forward and drives the boat out of

the harbor.

WE ANGLE ON:
the gas gauge that reads less than an eighth

tank of gas.

41 INT. OFFICE - DAY 41

David looks at his laptop. His finger lingers over the ticket

purchase option.

quickly moves through the sea.

43 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DAY 43

Ellie stands on the front deck removing her cover up,

Javier watches from the controls and can’t help but grow a

creepy grin.

Samantha comes up from the galley carrying two glasses of

wine and the open bottle.

Samantha holds out a glass of wine for him. He takes it and

sips.

JAVIER:

Mmmm. So good.

SAMANTHA:

Yes, it is.

JAVIER:

You look stunning today.

SAMANTHA:

Thank you. I haven’t heard that in

a long time.

36.

JAVIER:

Come on Sam. I’m sure men come onto

you all the time.

SAMANTHA:

No one calls me Sam but David.

JAVIER:

Well, maybe we should change that.

BEAT.

SAMANTHA:

How do you know which way to go? I

mean everything is blue.

JAVIER:

Ah. Captain’s secret. -- Come here.

Samantha walks up beside him.

JAVIER:

No here.

He motions between him and the wheel.

SAMANTHA:

I’ll wreck...

JAVIER:

On what? Come on.

She builds a little bravery.

SAMANTHA:

Okay sure.

She slips between Javier and the wheel and then grabs the

wheel just inside of Javier’s hands.

He leans in with his mouth beside her ear.

JAVIER:

Okay so you see this...

He points at a very large dome shaped compass with a red line

painted on the glass.

SAMANTHA:

Yes.

JAVIER:

I want you to keep the red line on

30 degrees. *

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 37.

SAMANTHA:

I’ve got it.

JAVIER:

Are you sure?

SAMANTHA:

Yes.

Javier let’s go.

JAVIER:

(whisper in her ear)

Okay. It’s all you babe.

He kisses her neck ever so slightly, and then sits on a

bench, tilts his hat forward and looks as if he’s ready for a

nap.

JAVIER:

Wake me when we’re there.

Samantha laughs at his joke and then notices the compass is

moving off the 124 degree mark.

SAMANTHA:

Um... We’re turning.

She turns the wheel a little and it straighten’s back out.

SAMANTHA:

Okay.

ELLIE:

MOM! You’re driving!

SAMANTHA:

I know!

Ellie cheers and takes a photo.

Javier looks out from under his hat and Samantha catches him

looking. He winks.

44 EXT. OCEAN - DAY 44

45 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DECK - DAY 45

lays out a towel.

38.

SAMANTHA:

You’re looking a little well done,

you should cover up.

Ellie moans.

ELLIE:

Come on mom. I’m fine.

SAMANTHA:

You won’t be fine. I’ll have to rub

aloe on you tonight.

ELLIE:

I’m not a kid mom. I know when I’m

done.

Samantha takes off her layers down to a bikini, and then sits

next Ellie.

SAMANTHA:

Come on. I’m serious. Cover up.

ELLIE:

(big sigh)

Yeah. Okay. You know thank you for

taking me on this trip, but part of

me wishes Dad was here.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie. That’s not fair. Your father

and I needed some time to think.

Okay. Nobody is calling it quits. --

Not yet. Okay?

ELLIE:

Sure Mom.

Ellie grabs her slip and moves to the stern.

SAMANTHA:

You’re welcome.

Samantha drinks her wine.

INT. SAIL 46 BOAT - GALLEY - DAY 46

Javier peers out at Samantha and then holds a sat phone up to

his ear. It RINGS.

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ (V.O.)

Hello.

39.

JAVIER:

I have your package.

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ (V.O.)

When can I expect it?

JAVIER:

Tonight. Send your men and make

sure they have my cash. Oh and a

bonus. She’s got a daughter.

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ (V.O.)

I’m in no position for a child.

JAVIER:

Come on man. She’s eighteen.

Beautiful. Fully developed. You’re

passing on a gorgeous opportunity.

Look, I’ll deliver her for half

price.

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ (V.O.)

NO. I’m only prepared for what I

ordered anything extra will cause

problems. We’re not ready for that.

JAVIER:

I took this job because the cash is

great, but it’s not good enough to

kill a kid.

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ (V.O.)

Who said kill her. I said I don’t

want her. You do with her what you

will but make sure my package is

ready on time, with no slip ups, or

I will kill you.

JAVIER:

What am I supposed to do with the

kid?!

SENIOR RODRIGUEZ

That’s your problem. NOT mine.

Midnight Egmont Key.

JAVIER:

Yeah. Fine.

Rodriguez hangs up.

JAVIER:

PERFECT.

40.

He can barely control his temper.

ELLIE:

I can’t wait to dive with the

dolphins.

He hesitates and looks out a small window at the girls.

SAMANTHA:

I don’t know. It’s dangerous you

know.

Javier takes a deep breath and then stashes the SAT phone in

a cubby. He rushes out of the cabin.

JAVIER:

Who wants to see dolphins?

47 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DAY 47

Ellie jumps off the boat and into the water. She’s wearing

snorkel gear.

ELLIE:

Come on, Mom! The water is perfect!

Samantha sits on the transom with her feet in the water.

SAMANTHA:

I’m fine.

JAVIER:

Canon ball!

Javier jumps over the edge and splashes Samantha.

SAMANTHA:

Okay. Now I’m wet.

ELLIE:

We’re in the ocean, mom!

SAMANTHA:

You’re in it. I’m on it.

Javier’s yet to surface when Ellie suddenly screams.

SAMANTHA:

ELLIE!

Javier surfaces behind Ellie laughing.

41.

ELLIE:

You pinched my...

JAVIER:

I bet you thought it was a shark?

ELLIE:

NO!

She splashes him.

JAVIER:

Come on. There’s a cool water cave

over here with some Dolphin.

ELLIE:

Really?

JAVIER:

Yep!

Javier leads her away from the boat.

SAMANTHA:

Be careful please!

Samantha worries and then feels a little woozy.

SAMANTHA:

Maybe time to take a break from the

booze.

She sets down the wine glass but the dizzy spell doesn’t

stop. She fights the urge to throw up. After a few moments

the urge wins.

She jumps to her feet, knocking the glass over.

It breaks on impact and red wine drips into the ocean. WE

STAY TIGHT ON THE BROKEN GLASS AS we see her bare feet run

into the cabin.

WE ANGLE ON:
the dripping red wine. OFF CAMERA: SAMANTHA

THROWS UP.

48 EXT. OCEAN - DAY 48

DAVID:

Hi, Teresa.

TERESA:

DAVID:

How’s Kevin’s ear ache.

TERESA:

Much better now thank you.

KYLE:

DAVID:

KYLE:

DAVID:

TERESA:

We have a second house on the

beach. It’s just lovely.

KYLE:

We just bought a boat and need to

shake out the cobwebs.

They sit across from David.

TERESA:

Where’s Samantha?

DAVID:

She’s at the Don Cesar.

43.

TERESA:

Oh beautiful hotel, it’s the best.

Good choice. -- Look, I’d love to

see her maybe a lunch? We’ve not

connected in ages. How is she?

DAVID:

She’s doing -- really great.

INT. SAIL 50 BOAT - HEAD - DAY 50

She opens one and gulps it. She finishes, and then gasps for

air trying to calm down.

55 EXT. OCEAN - SURFACE - DAY 55

They come up from below the surface.

ELLIE:

It’s amazing!

JAVIER:

Yes it is.

ELLIE:

I love it!

Javier eerily stares.

JAVIER:

I’m sorry.

ELLIE:

About?

56 INT. SAIL BOAT - GALLEY - DAY 56

Samantha walks through the cabin snooping around. She opens a

door to one room, it’s filled with fishing gear, old boat

parts, dirty clothes and food wrappers.

She closes that door and then continues down the hallway to

the door at the end.

She slowly reaches for the handle, twists and pushes it open.

The door swings to reveal a bedroom.

57 INT. SAIL BOAT - BEDROOM - DAY 57

Sunlight beams into the room through a cracked vent over the

bed. The air is musty and the blankets are stained and dirty.

45.

Samantha notices that the comforter is raised as if someone

is sleeping under it.

SAMANTHA:

Hello?

No answer. She slowly walks toward it.

EXT. OCEAN 58 - SURFACE - DAY 58

Javier grabs her head and pushes it under the water.

At first it seems playful but as Ellie tries to come up for

air he continues to push her down.

She starts to struggle.

JAVIER:

(emotional)

I’m sorry. It’s either you or me! I *

have no choice! Stop fighting! I’m *

sorry!

She knees him square in the testicles. He let’s go of her.

She lands a kick to his stomach and then comes up for a huge

gasp of air.

Ellie takes off in a freestyle towards the boat.

JAVIER:

HEY! STOP!

Javier swims after her. It’s a race to the boat with Javier

gaining.

He grabs a leg.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 46.

ELLIE:

Let go of me!

She kicks him in the face.

INT. SAIL BOAT 61 - BEDROOM - DAY 61

Samantha’s fingers brush on the blanket.

SAMANTHA:

Hello?

She grips the blanket and pulls revealing:

A Akona Dry Scuba Duffle Backpack.

The boat roughly rocks to the aft and the closet door behind

her creeps open.

She notices stuff behind the bag. She pulls it up and reveals

a neck hanging traveler’s wallet that’s open. It’s an FBI

Identification with a photo of Todd. There’s another FBI

Identification with Annie’s photo on it.

Under the badges are a half dozen passports and one of them

is open revealing that in it’s a photo of SAMANTHA.

The emotions of seeing her photo on a passport that isn’t

her’s, brings the reality of the situation crashing down.

She slowly picks it up reads the latin name, ESMERALDA

RODRIGUEZ.

In the duffle bag is thousands upon thousands of US Dollars.

The boat lists to the right causing Samantha to drop the

passport and brace herself. There is movement behind her!

She turns and catches Annie’s dead body as it falls out of

the closet.

Together they fall onto the bed. Samantha is face to face

with Annie. Her neck is black and blue tell-tale signs that

she was strangled to death.

Samantha SCREAMS.

She pushes Annie off and tries to get up but loses her

footing and falls to her knees right in front of TODD! He’s

been shot in the head.

She SCREAMS again.

47.

EXT. SAIL BOAT - SWIMMING PLATFORM 62 - AFTERNOON 62

Ellie arrives at the swim platform and climbs onto it.

ELLIE:

MOM! MOM!

She climbs over the transom just as Javier jumps out of the

water like a dolphin. He grabs Ellie’s leg.

She falls hitting her chin on the transom and then lands on

the swim platform, stomach down.

She rolls over and kicks him in the face. Again she gains a

moment of respite from his attacks allowing her to climb over

the transom and into the boat.

ELLIE:

MOM! MOM!

Javier’s hand juts out of the water and grabs the swim

platform. He slowly pulls himself out of the water.

He opens a hatch...

63 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DECK - AFTERNOON 63

ELLIE:

MOM!

Samantha comes running out of the cabin.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! Ellie!

ELLIE:

Ja...

(out of breath)

Javier. He... Tried.

SAMANTHA:

Baby, we have to get out of here.

JAVIER (O.S.)

And where will you go?

The women turn and discover Javier pointing a spear gun.

JAVIER:

Look around you. There’s no where

to go.

48.

Javier reaches behind him and opens another compartment where

he wrangles some rope.

JAVIER:

(to Ellie)

Tie up your mom.

He throws the rope at Ellie’s feet.

ELLIE:

What?

JAVIER:

TIE HER UP!

ELLIE:

I don’t...

JAVIER:

TIE HER UP!

(repeat)

ELLIE:

I can’t!

SAMANTHA:

I’ll do it! Just don’t hurt

my daughter. * Samantha picks up the rope and wraps it around her hands.

JAVIER:

Sit down.

SAMANTHA:

Please don’t...

JAVIER:

(to Samantha)

SIT DOWN!

Samantha sits.

SAMANTHA:

Don’t...

JAVIER:

Talk again. Do it.

Samantha closes her mouth. Javier turns his attention back to

Ellie. He’s the predator; she’s the hunted.

JAVIER:

I don’t want to do this but, you

hurt me. And now I have to hurt

you.

49.

He swings the speargun’s aim at Ellie.

SAMANTHA:

NO!

Samantha dives for the speargun and takes hold pointing it

away from Ellie.

The speargun goes off sending the spear into the control

panel. It busts up the radio and compass. Sparks explode and

the electrical short causes the engine to start and rev to

full-throttle forward.

The boat yanks the anchor line tight.

This causes Javier to fall backward. Samantha falls with him.

A tug-a-war between the boat’s engine and anchor causes the

boat to rock erratically.

JAVIER:

GET OFF ME!

Samantha holds the speargun between them and wrestles to hold

him down.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! GO! SWIM!

Javier overpowers Samantha and slams her onto her back. The

impact knocks the breath out of her.

He rams the flat side of the spear gun into her chest

repeatedly. Her arms are weak. She lets go. Javier jams the

gun against her throat, choking her.

PUSH INTO A CU:
SAMANTHA STRUGGLES TO BREATHE.

The tug-a-war between boat and anchor is nearly over as the

rope frays.

Javier moves very close to Samantha’s face and then he kisses

her.

JAVIER:

I win.

SMASH! A wine bottle busts over his head. Dazed, he drops the

spear gun and Samantha takes a huge breath.

Head spinning, Javier stands and turns around to face...

Ellie, she holds the broken wine bottle.

50.

SNAP! The anchor line breaks and the boat lunges forward.

Javier stumbles backward and falls over the transom. Ellie

falls beside her mother.

Javier hits the swim platform with his head and then falls

into the water. He successfully grabs a line and holds on for

a moment.

Samantha spots him holding the line and quickly unties it

from the cleat; the rope slips loose.

He is left behind as the boat races away. He floats for a

moment and then sinks into the water.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! Are you okay?

Ellie nods.

SAMANTHA:

(coughing)

Where is he?

Samantha uses the transom to pull herself up and looks back.

There’s no sign of Javier.

The boat starts to turn around.

SAMANTHA:

Who’s driving?

They both look at the controls and see the steering wheel is

spinning to the right.

SAMANTHA:

Move!

Samantha stumbles to the controls and turns the steering

wheel straight.

SAMANTHA:

Which way is land?!

ELLIE:

How should I know?

SAMANTHA:

You weren’t watching?

ELLIE:

Were YOU?

A warning buzzer goes off.

51.

SAMANTHA:

What’s that?

They look down and see the gas gauge is on E.

ELLIE:

Mom! There’s no gas!

The engine sputters, and then runs out of gas.

They slow to a stop.

They’re in middle of the ocean with no land in sight. The sun

is on the horizon and dark is an hour away.

ELLIE:

What do we do now?

SAMANTHA:

I don’t know.

ELLIE:

Where’s the land?!

(repeat)

SAMANTHA:

I don’t KNOW! -- Ellie, get your

phone.

Ellie kneels beside her bag and pulls her phone.

ELLIE:

There’s no service.

She holds the phone up and spins around in circles as if a

different position will help.

SAMANTHA:

Keep trying.

ELLIE:

(frantic)

There’s no service!

(repeat)

SAMANTHA:

Ellie.

ELLIE:

NOTHING! It’s not working. It’s got

to work.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie.

52.

Samantha grabs her hand with the phone and stops her from

spinning.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie? Give me the phone.

Ellie lets go and Samantha holds it up just hoping...

INSERT:
NO SERVICE.

SAMANTHA:

Nothing.

Samantha hands the phone to Ellie.

ELLIE:

Maybe there’s another radio in the

cabin. We should look...

SAMANTHA:

No. Don’t go down there. I will.

ELLIE:

But...

BEEP. Ellie’s phone has service.

ELLIE:

I have service!

Ellie dials.

SAMANTHA:

Call the police.

KYLE:

in extended parking.

Kyle hustles off.

TERESA:

So where are the girls? I wanted to

say hi.

DAVID:

I’m surprising them. Look Teresa

the truth is I came down because

Samantha and I are split up and I

want to make up. I made some

serious mistakes.

TERESA:

Oh David. I’m sorry.

DAVID:

It’s not really me to air my

laundry you know.

TERESA:

Oh David. You’re doing the right

thing.

DAVID:

Thanks.

TERESA:

Hey. Call me Anytime. Really. I

teach this great couples counseling

class on Wednesday night. You guys

should come. I have a PHD in

psychology.

DAVID:

I had no idea...

A truck pulls up and Kyle gets out.

KYLE:

I’m starved. You want to grab

dinner with us?

54.

DAVID:

No. I’ve got to get to the hotel.

Thank you.

TERESA:

Good luck.

KYLE:

Hey if you want to go catch a few

fish and down a few beers let me

know.

DAVID:

I will. Thanks.

They drive away. David hails an UBER.

EXT. SAIL BOAT 65 - DECK - SUNSET 65

The last rays of sunshine jets over the horizon.

Ellie has her cover up on and sits with the phone in front of

her. Still no reception.

Samantha walks up from the cabin with a flashlight along with

two sandwiches and a couple bottles of water.

SAMANTHA:

The radio is smashed. And this is

all I could find.

She sets down the sandwiches and water next to Ellie then

sits beside her.

SAMANTHA:

Anything?

ELLIE:

Do you know how to sail?

SAMANTHA:

No, but there’s nothing stopping me

from trying-

It’s dead calm.

SAMANTHA:

My first guess is we need wind.

ELLIE:

Yeah. And which way do we go?

55.

SAMANTHA:

East. I think. -- Okay, I don’t

know for sure but that would be a

good guess.

Ellie shivers.

SAMANTHA:

Here.

She pulls off her cover up and wraps it around Ellie.

Ellie looks off at the horizon.

ELLIE:

I’m scared.

SAMANTHA:

I know baby. I know.

66 INT. UBER - NIGHT 66

David is being driven to the hotel.

He pulls out his phone and realizes he hasn’t turned it off

airplane mode and does so.

DING. The message from Ellie. He hits play on speaker.

The message is static filled with just milli-seconds of

audible sounds.

SAMANTHA:

David.

(static)

Between... Key...

(static)

Please...

CLICK.

He plays it again and the message repeats exactly the same.

He tries Ellie’s cellphone and it goes right to voicemail. He

calls Samantha’s cell phone it rings and then voicemail.

He hangs up and calls the Don CeSar Hotel.

HOSTESS:

Don CeSar.

DAVID:

Samantha McCarthy’s room please.

56.

HOSTESS:

Connecting.

The phone RINGS AND RINGS. No answer.

DAVID:

Sam. Where are you?

EXT. 67 SAIL BOAT - NIGHT 67

The women are cuddled together looking at the star filled

night sky.

ELLIE:

Do you think Javier’s dead?

SAMANTHA:

He was going to hurt us.

ELLIE:

I killed him-

SAMANTHA:

-No. Circumstance did. But not

you... YOU saved us.

They hear the sound of WAVES HITTING THE SHORE.

SAMANTHA:

Do you hear that?

They both stand up and look around. Behind them is an island!

SAMANTHA:

LAND!

ELLIE:

LAND!

SAMANTHA *

Ellie. The boat’s going the wrong

way.

ELLIE:

What?

SAMANTHA:

We’re in a current! We’re going to

pass the land! -- Find a paddle!

HURRY!

Ellie runs into the cabin.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie stop!

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 57.

INT. SAIL BOAT - SECOND 68 BEDROOM - NIGHT 68

Ellie opens up the second bedroom and flips on a light

revealing it’s a huge mess but near a canvass sheet is a

paddle.

SAMANTHA (O.S.)

Ellie!

ELLIE:

I found a paddle!

She climbs over some stuff and can just barely reach it. She

just about grabs it when the boat rocks causing her to fall

forward.

The fall causes her to pull off the canvass and reveal

Kelly’s boyfriend from the news cast photos in the bar, ALEX. *

He’s been shot in the chest.

Ellie screams.

Samantha grabs her arms and pulls her out of the room.

69 INT. SAIL BOAT - GALLEY - NIGHT 69

ELLIE:

There’s a dead body. Dead body!

(repeat frantic)

Ellie SCREAMS again upon seeing Anna’s body in the other

bedroom.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! Come on.

(repeat)

Ellie starts to hyper ventilate. Samantha pulls her out.

70 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DECK - NIGHT 70

SAMANTHA:

Take deep breaths. Okay. Ellie.

Come on. You have to focus on me.

Ellie starts to calm down.

SAMANTHA:

We have to swim for it?

ELLIE:

I can’t.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 58.

SAMANTHA:

Yes you can!

ELLIE:

I CAN’T.

SAMANTHA:

If we stay on this boat we may

never see land again. Please baby.

You must.

Ellie nods.

SAMANTHA:

Grab life jackets! I’m going to

gather supplies!

ELLIE:

Don’t leave me...

SAMANTHA:

Ellie you can do this. Please.

Samantha runs into the cabin.

Ellie pulls off the seat covers and finds the lifejackets.

INT. SAIL BOAT 71 - GALLEY - NIGHT 71

Samantha hurries around grabbing items they might need.

Lighter, water, the last of the food, she puts it in a

plastic bag and then spots the water proof scuba bag filled

with money.

She hesitates.

72 EXT. SAIL BOAT - NIGHT 72

Ellie pulls on the lifejacket and then looks into the dark

cabin. There are no signs of Samantha.

ELLIE:

Mom?

BEAT.

ELLIE:

MOM!

Samantha comes running out with goggles on her head and the

scuba bag in her hands.

59.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s go!

Samantha slips on lifejacket, puts on the duffle bag straps,

and pulls down her goggles. They stand on the transom ready

to dive in.

SAMANTHA:

Stay close to me. There’s a

current. We swim with it and at a

diagonal toward the shore. Don’t

fight it.

Samantha grabs Ellie’s hand.

SAMANTHA:

Baby. We can do this. -- One...

SAMANTHA:

Two...

ELLIE:

Two...

SAMANTHA:

Three!

ELLIE:

Three!

They jump in the water.

INT. DON CESAR HOTEL - 73 GUEST ROOM - NIGHT 73

A door opens into a dark room. A light turns on.

DAVID:

Sam? Ellie?

The room is empty. David sets down his bags and walks into

the condo’s bedroom.

There on the night stand is Samantha’s phone still plugged

into the charger.

He picks up her phone.

DAVID:

Sam?

He looks around. Nothing. He types in a code and the phone

opens.

He scrubs through her phone and discovers nothing. He spots

the flowers and under it the photos of Javier and Samantha.

He picks them up.

DAVID:

Giving us some time.

60.

He looks closer at the photo and spots the docks in the

background.

DAVID:

The charter.

He pockets the photo and phone, and then strides out of the

hotel room.

EXT. OCEAN - 74 UNDERWATER - NIGHT 74

UNDERWATER LOOKING UP.

The women swim over us, the moonlight shining above them.

75 EXT. EGMONT KEY - BEACH - NIGHT 75

They walk up onto shore and then collapse next to one another

exhausted.

SAMANTHA:

Are you okay?

Ellie’s breathing hard.

SAMANTHA:

Are you okay?

ELLIE:

Yes. -- I’m fine. -- I’m fine.

Samantha takes off the duffle bag and then stands.

ELLIE:

Mom?

She waves at Ellie to be quiet and steadies herself.

All sorts of animal sounds come from the dark. A rustling

near them causes Samantha to spin and look in that direction.

ELLIE:

(whisper)

What is that?

SAMANTHA:

Come on. Let’s start a fire and

maybe someone will see it.

WE PULL BACK and DRONE OUT TO SEA REVEALING: the women on the

beach of the lush tropical island called EGMONT KEY.

61.

76 EXT. DOCK - NIGHT 76

David walks out onto the dock and finds a tour guide tying up

a boat. This is TRAVIS (45), a rough looking man who’s spent

more time on the water than around people.

DAVID:

Excuse me. My wife and daughter

took a charter this morning and

they’re still not back.

TRAVIS:

It’s possible. The winds are down.

DAVID:

Do you know this man?

David holds out the photo of Samantha with Javier.

TRAVIS:

Javier LeBlanc. He’s a charter

captains among other things.

DAVID:

What do you mean by that?

TRAVIS:

He’s a jack of a trades really.

Whatever pays the most, he’ll do

it.

DAVID:

Is there anyway to reach them?

TRAVIS:

Sure. Come.

Travis motions him onto the boat. David follows.

He moves to a radio and lifts up the receiver.

TRAVIS:

LeBlanc this is Eagle’s Nest come

back now.

Static.

TRAVIS:

LeBlanc this is Eagle’s Nest. Come

back now.

(repeat)

David looks out at the ocean as if his families cries for

help was reaching his heart, but not his ears.

62.

TRAVIS:

He’s not answering. -- I’m sorry. I

don’t know what else to do. It’s a

big ocean you know. -- If they’re

not back by morning you can call

the coast gaurd.

DAVID:

Morning? Why wait?

TRAVIS:

They won’t respond with out an SOS

or twenty four hours missing.

Protocol.

DAVID:

Protocol? But...

(to himself)

What if they’re in trouble now.

EXT. EGMONT 77 KEY - BEACH - NIGHT 77

A small fire burns. Ellie feeds it twigs. Samantha walks up

and drops an arm full of small twigs.

SAMANTHA:

Everything is wet.

She sits next to Ellie who is physically shaking and jumps at

any sound close to them.

SAMANTHA:

Hey. Do you remember when your

father and I took you camping at

Miner’s Creek? *

Ellie shakes her head.

SAMANTHA:

You were like five or six maybe.

And your father had this grand idea

that he was going to drop out of

med school and start panning for

gold.

ELLIE:

Dad?

SAMANTHA:

I know, right? Neither of us had

any experience camping let alone

prospecting.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 63.

The first night we sat around the

campfire roasting marshmallows.

Your father had burned the dinner

so it was about all we had. I had

just stuck two on a stick when we

heard this loud growl right next to

your Dad. He jumped so high and

threw his beer at whatever growled.

And... And the moment he hit the

ground he nearly mowed us down,

screaming like a little girl and

running for the car.

Ellie laughs.

SAMANTHA:

He had that car started and in

gear... and...

They’re both laughing now.

SAMANTHA:

...And sticks his head out the

window. He yells,

(best impression of David)

“Come on! It’s gonna eat you

ALIVE!”

More laughter.

SAMANTHA:

We left the camping gear and raced

out of there.

Samantha’s laughter turns to remembrance.

ELLIE:

So what was it? A bear?

SAMANTHA:

What?

ELLIE:

Next to Dad?

SAMANTHA:

It was my belly. I was so hungry. I

tried to tell him but he didn’t

listen.

Ellie smiles, the story helped. She leans on her mother and

Samantha puts her arm around her.

SAMANTHA (CONT'D)

64.

ELLIE:

Do you think he got our message?

SAMANTHA:

Knowing David, I’m sure he’s on his

way with the Calvary. *

INT. DON CESAR 78 HOTEL - BAR - NIGHT 78

David strides over to the bartender with photo in hand.

DAVID:

Excuse me. You haven’t seen them

around have you?

He shows her the photo of Samantha and Javier.

BARTENDER:

They were in last night but I

haven’t seen them since.

IAN (O.S.)

I saw them...

David spins around to face Ian.

DAVID:

When?

IAN:

Today. They got on a sail boat.

DAVID:

This guy? Javier LeBlanc?

IAN:

Yeah. That’s him. Who are you?

DAVID:

I’m Samantha’s husband.

Behind David, on the TV is a missing persons report. It’s

KELLY (the woman who died in the beginning). Her parents are

pleading with people to help them find her but the TV’s

volume is covered by the CARIBBEAN MUSIC.

IAN:

I’m Ian.

The bartender turns around and starts watching the TV. It’s a

slow night.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 65.

IAN:

I know Ellie as well. She was very

nice.

BARTENDER:

Hey. Let me see that photo again.

The bartender holds it up to the TV and they realize how

close the photo is to the police sketch.

BARTENDER:

I thought he looked familiar. This

guy was in here the other night!

Look. It’s him. He’s the guy

they’re looking for.

DAVID:

(to the bartender)

Please, call the police.

EXT. EGMONT 79 KEY - BEACH - NIGHT 79

Waves crash on the sand. The water pushes up the sand and

then back down. A very tan bare foot steps into frame and

then out.

WIDE:
Three men carrying backpacks hike along the shoreline.

80 EXT. EGMONT KEY - BEACH - NIGHT 80

Samantha holds Ellie who’s sleeping. The fire has dwindled

down to a few twigs, all the tinder has been used.

Samantha’s eyes are welled with tears as she works at keeping

it together. VOICES can be heard in the distance.

Samantha stiffens and listens.

Yes there are VOICES!

SAMANTHA:

Ellie wake up. Wake up.

Ellie is groggy but wakes.

SAMANTHA:

Someone is here.

Samantha peers around a tree and looks. She spots in the

distance the three men walking toward them.

66.

She’s about to wave when one of the men turns revealing a

rifle. They speak Spanish and sound anything but hospitable.

Reality dawns on Samantha, they are in danger. She runs back

to the fire and pushes sand over it.

ELLIE:

What are you doing...

SAMANTHA:

SSSSSH!

Samantha finishes and then grabs the diver’s bag and Ellie.

They run behind a fallen log and duck.

SAMANTHA:

Be quiet.

The men walk fifty feet from their hiding spot.

COYOTE 1

Javier lied to us again. Rodriguez

said if we find him we kill him.

He’s sick of his games.

COYOTE 2

Wait. I need to piss.

He walks toward the women and stops only three feet from them

and starts to pee.

The women cower. If he looked in the wrong direction, they

would be had.

He stops, zips up and then notices smoke coming up from the

sand. It’s the fire smoldering.

Fear chills the women as they tremble.

Coyote 2 moves closer to the sand and bends over trying to

figure out what he’s seeing.

COYOTE 1

Hey! Let’s go!

COYOTE 2

Yeah okay!

He runs back to the other men and they continue to hike.

Samantha holds Ellie tight in her arms, just happy they’re

both alive.

67.

INT. DON CESAR HOTEL 81 - LOBBY - NIGHT 81

hotel staff. Ian lingers in the shadows.

Two suits walk up to David and flash FBI badges as well as

the Hotel Manager - JILL.

MANAGER JILL:

Mr. McCarthy. I’m so sorry. We’ve

given the agents the video footage

of the man. He was never to be in *

our hotel soliciting. We don’t *

allow that and had we known we *

along with your wife.

AGENT MYER:

They leave as Ian slowly walks up.

IAN:

Feds huh?

DAVID:

They think Javier took them...

IAN:

Hey. I’m sorry about all of this.

DAVID:

It’s frustrating they won’t send

anyone out to look for them

tonight.

IAN:

The Gulf is huge. I was lost for *

three days and only a mile off

shore the entire time.

David walks away. Ian watches him go, his smile fading.

EXT. EGMONT KEY 82 - BEACH - SUNRISE 82

The women sit huddled together. Samantha has covered their

feet and legs with sand but it’s not really helping.

She’s wide awake and stares off into the dark abyss while in

her arms Ellie sleeps.

The jungle noise grows in volume. Tears drip from Samantha’s

eyes. The NOISE is at max when...

RING. Samantha jumps. RING. The phone is working! It’s DAVID!

She answers.

INTERCUT:

83 INT. DON CESAR HOTEL - GUEST ROOM - MORNING 83

David paces on the patio calling Ellie the hundredth time in

this last hour. He’s not slept a wink.

DAVID:

Samantha! SAMANTHA David! * DAVID

SAMANTHA:

We... are... I don’t know where. On

an island I think.

DAVID:

What island?

SAMANTHA:

The line drops.

DAVID:

The app finally opens and displays a twenty five mile radius

in the southern keys.

DAVID:

(to the computer)

CAN YOU BE ANY MORE VAGUE!

He picks up the phone and calls the FBI.

DAVID:

Yes, Agent Bailey! It’s David

McCarthy. I just got a call from my

We have to go.

ELLIE:

Why?

SAMANTHA:

Look.

The Sirocco passes only a couple hundred feet off the shore.

ELLIE:

He’s alive? How could he be alive?

SAMANTHA:

Calm down. It could be the current

we don’t know if he’s alive. Look.

We’re near Florida and that means

there is a great chance these *

islands are populated. We cut

through the brush and head east,

towards the sun. We will find a

road or something. Then we flag a

ride out of here. Okay?

ELLIE:

Okay.

SAMANTHA:

Let’s go.

They take off into the rainforest.

87 EXT. HOTEL LOBBY - DAY 87

David hustles through the lobby when Ian comes running after

him.

IAN:

David!

David looks back but keeps walking.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 74.

DAVID:

I have to go.

IAN:

Do you have any news on Ellie and

your wife?

DAVID:

They’re south of here near Egmont

Key.

IAN:

But the police are up north.

DAVID:

Well they won’t find my wife and *

daughter up there. *

IAN:

I know that area very well. Let me

help you! Please.

DAVID:

Okay. I’m meeting a friend with a

boat. Let’s go.

EXT. EGMONT 88 KEY - FOREST - DAY 88

They trudge through the forest.

ELLIE:

I’m thirsty.

Samantha hands her a bottle of water.

SAMANTHA:

It’s the last. Make it count.

Ellie sips.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! look!

She points to a road just fifty feet from them.

ELLIE:

A road!

They run onto it.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 75.

SAMANTHA:

We wait for a car to come and we

wave them down...

(tapers off)

Behind them the rainforest has grown over the road. Nothing

has driven on this road for a long time.

SAMANTHA:

Maybe it’s a side road off the

freeway you know.

ELLIE:

Yeah maybe.

Ellie nods her head.

SAMANTHA:

Come on!

They walk the other direction.

The highway was built a long time ago and no longer in

service. Samantha isn’t ready to admit it yet but she’s

losing hope with each step.

SAMANTHA:

I planned on signing you up for

college today and then celebrate by

picking out a new car for you.

ELLIE:

Mom. About that. I... Uh. Don’t

want to be a Doctor.

SAMANTHA:

But I thought it was your dream...

ELLIE:

No.

SAMANTHA:

Okay. Then what?

ELLIE:

General Ed for now.

SAMANTHA:

At Texas Tech?

ELLIE:

I want to be home...

76.

SAMANTHA:

You spoke to your father about

this?

Ellie nods.

ELLIE:

I tried to tell you but... You’ve

been busy.

Samantha stops walking and stares at a house up ahead.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie. Come on!

They run, and then slow as they realize it’s abandoned.

ELLIE:

Where is everyone?!

89 EXT. MAIN DOCK - DAY 89

David meets Kyle and Teresa on the dock along with Ian.

KYLE:

Who’s he?

DAVID:

Ian is a local. Knows the area.

KYLE:

David. I understand your need to

find your family but there’s a lot

of ocean out there. I want to

manage your expectations.

TERESA:

Just have faith, that she will be

okay.

DAVID:

I do. We’re gonna find them.

David hands him his Iphone with the Findme APP open to a map

with a flashing red dot over. Ian takes a very keen interest.

DAVID:

That’s her last location when she

called me.

KYLE:

It’s a twenty five mile radius.

77.

IAN:

That’s Egmont Key. I know the area.

There is a few old Naval Forts

there. They probably went for

shelter and stuff.

DAVID:

Then we better get moving.

They board the boat.

TERESA:

Be careful!

KYLE:

Grab onto something. This baby

moves.

Kyle throttles the boat to full speed and they rip away from

the dock at a high speed.

Teresa watches them go.

EXT. EGMONT 90 KEY - HIGHWAY - DAY 90

The old town is exactly that. Abandoned and decomposing.

They slowly walk through it.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie, look!

There is a path from that house toward the beach, and in the

distance they can see a fishing shack with a Jeep parked next

to it.

SAMANTHA:

There’s smoke!

They run toward the fishing shack.

91 EXT. OCEAN - DAY 91

The boat races across the water at a high speed.

92 EXT. SHACK - DAY 92

The lock is still smashed and the door is cracked open. They

approach the door.

78.

ELLIE:

Mom.

Samantha looks and spots the pinewood coffin still on the saw

horses.

SAMANTHA:

(call out)

Hello?

No answer.

SAMANTHA:

We’re lost and need help.

Still nothing.

ELLIE:

Maybe we should knock?

SAMANTHA:

Okay.

Samantha takes a couple steps up to the door and knocks.

The door swings open from the pressure of her knock. It

reveals the room we’ve seen before.

SAMANTHA:

Stay here.

ELLIE:

Okay.

Samantha slowly walks in. The place hasn’t changed at all

since the last time we saw it. Except on the table sits a

open box of bullets, a few of them have been scattered. Also,

on the table are the keys to the Jeep and the Deba knife.

She looks at the bed and then up to the Polaroid photos

hanging from the ceiling.

One of them turns toward her revealing the photo of Samantha

and Javier on the beach.

Fear rushes into Samantha’s veins. He’s here. He is alive!

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! ELLIE!

Samantha grabs the Jeep keys and Deba knife, and then runs

out of the cabin.

79.

ELLIE:

What?

SAMANTHA:

Come on! There’s a car!

They run to the jeep and get in.

ELLIE:

What is it? What’s wrong.

SAMANTHA:

Get in the CAR!

Samantha starts the Jeep.

JAVIER jumps up outside Ellie’s door and reaches in grabbing

her arm.

JAVIER:

HEY! *

ELLIE:

GO, MOM! GO!

(repeat franticly)

Samantha throws it into gear.

Samantha slams on the accelerator and the Jeep drives down

the road quickly gaining speed.

JAVIER:

STOP!

Javier pulls a canvass blanket off a dirt bike.

He kick starts it and chases after them.

EXT. EGMONT KEY 93 - DIRT ROAD - DAY 93

They drive down the dirt road.

SAMANTHA:

Hold on!

They hit a bump, jump a few feet, and then land.

Ellie can’t help but SCREAM.

Javier pulls a pistol and takes aim.

ELLIE:

Where we going?

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 80.

SAMANTHA:

There has to be a highway around

here somewhere!

A bullet whizzes pass them. They scream as he shoots again.

Javier’s gaining speed and closing the distance.

SAMANTHA:

Son of a b*tch!

She makes a hard right turn, and then floors the accelerator.

The jeep gains ground and Javier is lost in their dust.

ELLIE:

We’ve lost him.

Samantha looks in the rear-view-mirror when...

ELLIE:

MOM!

A hundred feet ahead the highway ends falling off into a

ditch. Samantha slams on the breaks. They skid the hundred

feet and then off the road and into a ditch.

Samantha hits her head on the steering wheel and blacks out.

94 INT. SHACK - DAY 94

The sound of a flies buzzing OVER BLACK.

It’s louder and louder when...

SMASH TO:

Samantha opens her eyes.

POV:
there are flies over her landing on the photos. END POV.

She’s bruised on her forehead and groggy. A cool breeze spins

the Polaroid pictures over the bed as if a baby’s mobile.

Javier works at the table. His back towards Samantha, hides

whatever he’s working on, as well as his face.

At his feet is a dirty bucket. He drops a piece of goo into

the bucket. Flies swarm over it.

Samantha realizes that her clothes have been changed. She

wears a thin white sun dress and under that are white

panties. Her shoes have been removed and hair dressed back in

a pony tail.

81.

Samantha jolts up ready to make a break for it...

JAVIER:

(without looking back)

You won’t get far. -- I would never

lie to you.

His hand rests on a pistol.

Samantha freezes.

Javier removes his hand from the pistol, and then continues

to work.

JAVIER:

Tetrodotoxin is a neurotoxin that

inhibits neural transmissions,

leading to temporary paralysis and

in some cases of high doses, death.

-- Surprisingly, the puffer fish is

a delicacy in Japanese cuisine,

only chefs with a license can

prepare the sashimi. -- But maybe

you already knew that. -- The

procedure of extracting the toxin

took months for me to master.

He sets down a scalpel and picks up a syringe. We hear a

sucking sound.

JAVIER:

It saturates the liver.

He holds up the syringe, inside is a black ink looking

liquid.

JAVIER:

And there it is.

He turns.

JAVIER:

Well I’m just about ready to ship

you out. I use the toxin to help

you- Uh. -Relax during the trip.

SAMANTHA:

The coffin? You let people think

I’m dead.

Javier nods.

82.

JAVIER:

It’s an old trick but nobody wants

to search a coffin.

SAMANTHA:

You’re sick! Trafficking women.

He slaps her.

JAVIER:

NO. I don’t traffic women. You’re

special. I typically run drugs but *

the guy I work for wants an

American Bride. And well

considering if he sets foot in the

US he’ll be arrested he hired me to

be his matchmaker. We’ve had a few

not work out so -He forces me to *

keep trying. *

SAMANTHA:

Are you crazy? -- You think I’m

going to be this man’s wife. *

He gets very close.

JAVIER:

And I’m tired of this... I hate it.

I want to get back to my simple

easy life.

SAMANTHA:

Where’s Ellie?

BEAT.

JAVIER:

Rodriguez did’t want her so I... I

had to bury her.

SAMANTHA:

YOU WHAT?! Is she alive?! Did you

kill her!?

She moves but he grabs her arm and places the needle near her

throat.

JAVIER:

She’s alive for now. I couldn’t do

it.

SAMANTHA:

You buried her alive?

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 83.

Javier nods.

JAVIER:

And you need to start doing what I

say. Or I will bury you next to

her.

SAMANTHA:

Please. Let her go. Please.

(repeat crying)

Javier pushes Samantha away.

JAVIER:

She knows too much. I’m sorry. I

don’t like it either. She was...

Beautiful.

SAMANTHA:

You’re a monster!

Javier’s eyes sink. He knows what she said is true.

The sound of a motorboat and Javier perks up.

It slows and stops.

SAMANTHA:

Th...

JAVIER:

SHEESH!

He points the gun at her.

95 EXT. SAIL BOAT - DAY 95

David rushes out from down below deck. His hand covering his

mouth and nose. He makes it topside and starts to breathe

deep.

Kyle is on the fishing vessel that’s tied to the fishing

boat.

KYLE:

What is it?

DAVID:

It’s a morgue down there. -- Check

these out.

David throws him a stack of passports. Kyle sorts through

them.

84.

KYLE:

This guy has a collection.

DAVID:

All women.

Ian steps out from below deck. Just as Kyle opens one of the

passports with Ian’s photo on it.

KYLE:

What? -- Hey kid. This one looks

like you.

Kyle looks right at Ian. Ian’s face is unmistakeable.

KYLE:

David get in the boa-

Ian pulls a pistol and shoots Kyle in the stomach.

DAVID:

KYLE!

David goes to jump in the fish boat to help Kyle.

IAN:

Don’t MOVE!

Ian points the pistol at David’s face.

DAVID:

What are you doing?

IAN:

Watching my brother’s back. He

promised me Ellie.

DAVID:

Javier is your brother?

Ian nods.

IAN:

Same father. Different mothers. --

Get in the fishing boat.

They climb into the fishing boat.

IAN:

Drive to shore.

KYLE:

Don’t do it David. He’ll kill us

both.

85.

IAN:

Shut up!

DAVID:

I need to help him, he’s bleeding

out.

IAN:

I said DRIVE!

David attacks Ian grabbing his pistol hand and raising it

into the air. Ian shoots.

96 INT. SHACK - EVENING 96

The distant sound of the gunshot distracts Javier.

Samantha tackles him holding his hand with the needle away

from her.

He stumbles backward and together they fall out the door.

97 EXT. SHACK - BEACH - EVENING 97

They trip down the steps and onto the sand. The needle is

flung from his hand and Javier loses sight of it.

JAVIER:

DAMN IT!

She kicks him in the face and then runs toward the shore

waving her arms.

SAMANTHA:

HERE! OVER HERE! HELP!

98 EXT. FISHING BOAT - EVENING 98

DAVID:

Samantha!

SAMANTHA:

(feint)

HELP! HELP!

IAN:

Don’t you MODavid

slams the throttle forward and Ian is sent stumbling

into the transom.

86.

David’s eyes are wild. Seeing his wife has given him a new

found strength.

IAN:

Stop the boat!

Ian aims the pistol at David’s head.

David jams the boat in reverse and the quick motion causes

Ian to stumble forward and slam into the window. He drops the

pistol.

David tackles him and they start to fight.

EXT. EGMONT KEY 99 - SHORE - EVENING 99

SAMANTHA:

HEY! I’m HERE! HELP ME!

JAVIER:

SAM!?

She turns. Javier points a pistol at her.

JAVIER:

There’s no stopping this.

Samantha spots a freshly dug grave.

SAMANTHA:

Oh my god. OH my GOD. Ellie! YOU

BASTARD!

JAVIER:

STOP YELLING! I HATE IT! I can’t

keep doing this... But he’s gonna *

kill me if I don’t so... so... SO. *

Please. It’s time for you to go.

100 EXT. FISHING BOAT - EVENING 100

Ian picks up a fishing spear. He uses it as a weapon and

tries to shove it into David’s right eye. David holds Ian’s

hands the spear tip only inches from his eye.

101 EXT. BEACH - EVENING 101

Javier front kicks her in the chest. She lands on her back *

out of breath. He points the pistol at her face. He’s very *

emotional, unstable, dangerous.

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 87.

JAVIER:

I... I will save Ellie if you do

this for me. I will save her.

EXT. FISHING 102 BOAT - EVENING 102

David pushes the spear and Ian’s hands to the side of his

head, and then let’s go allowing Ian’s pressure to drive the

spear into the deck beside him.

David slams Ian’s head into the transom again and again.

Ian’s body goes limp and David pushes him off.

David finds a speargun, pulls the spear free from the deck,

and then jumps over the side into the shallow water.

103 EXT. BEACH - EVENING 103

He wades through the water toward Javier and Sam.

DAVID:

STOP!

Javier looks even more depressed seeing David. His mind has

cracked. He’s gone insane.

JAVIER:

No. NOOOO. NO.

(repeat)

Why... Why are you here!

Javier YELLS in frustration. David wades up to shin deep

water and stops.

JAVIER:

YOU shouldn’t have come. Now I have

to kill you to... I... AHHH!!

Javier grips the pistol by his thigh. He’s not raised it.

Samantha spots the syringe with the puffer fish toxin not too

far from her.

David stands with the sunset behind him. It’s a fiery red sky

with white clouds. He aims the spear gun at Javier.

DAVID:

No. You don’t have to kill anyone.

I want my wife and daughter and

then I leave. We don’t tell anyone

about you. We just go home.

88.

JAVIER:

I wish it could be so... I wish...

Javier holds the pistol loose in his hand that’s hanging by

his side. It’s a classic stand off.

JAVIER:

Where is my brother?

DAVID:

I can pay you.

JAVIER:

WHERE IS MY BROTHER!?

DAVID:

Nursing a headache on the boat. *

BEAT.

DAVID:

Please give me my family.

Javier hesitates like he’s really thinking about it.

JAVIER:

No.

Javier draws the pistol.

David dives to his left shooting the spear gun while Javier

fires the pistol. David is hit in the shoulder just before he

crashes into the ocean.

The bolt from the spear gun misses Javier and jams into the

sand behind him.

David lands in the water and disappears.

SAMANTHA:

DAVID!

Javier’s won. He holsters the pistol into his belt line.

David’s body resurfaces. He’s floating on his back.

A dazed Ian out of the boat and then stands walking toward

them.

IAN:

Javier!

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 89.

JAVIER:

You were supposed to keep them away

from here!

IAN:

Where is ELLIE!? You told me I

could have Ellie!

He wades over to Javier.

JAVIER:

We finish the job first, then we

talk.

The sound of a thumping helicopter.

Ian is only a few feet away.

IAN:

Where is SHE!

JAVIER:

Shut up! Do you hear that?

IAN:

I want Ell-

Javier socks him in the mouth and Ian is knocked down into

the knee deep water.

JAVIER:

Shut UP!

While the men fight Samantha uses the distraction like she

did earlier with Paul and Nancy to pick up the syringe and

creep toward the distracted Javier.

JAVIER:

That’s a helicopter! You were

followed.

IAN:

The FBI knows all about you! Even

has your REAL name!

JAVIER:

They what? What did you do?

(repeat)

Javier bends down and pulls Ian up by his shirt.

JAVIER:

WHAT DID YOU DO?!

90.

IAN:

Nothing! Exactly that! I did

nothing!

Javier punches Ian in the face. The impact knocks Ian back

allowing Javier to throw a body blow and then another body

blow.

Ian fights back and they land an exchange of blows until Ian

gets the upper hand knocking Javier down.

Ian proceeds to kick Javier repeatedly.

IAN:

Go to hell! I hate you!

(repeat)

Javier grabs Ian’s leg and twists it causing him to fall.

JAVIER:

You ungrateful b*tch!

Javier top mounts and drives fists into Ian’s face.

Ian’s knocked out and Javier slides off his limp body. He

sits on the sand looking out at the ocean.

In the distance he can see the shadow of a Coast Gaurd

helicopter approaching.

JAVIER:

(to Ian)

Damn you. YOU FOOL.

He stumbles to his feet and turns to run when he bumps into

Samantha.

SAMANTHA:

Can’t run from me Javier.

Javier’s eyes go wide. He looks down at his chest and

sticking out of heart area is the syringe. All of the toxin

has been injected.

SAMANTHA:

You’ll never hurt anyone AGAIN!

Samantha throws an upper cut. Her punch lifts Javier and he

falls onto the fishing spear.

He lay there, dying as the tide moves around his body.

David floated onto the shore near Samatha and is moaning in

pain. Samantha rushes to his aid.

91.

SAMANTHA:

David? DAVID!

DAVID:

Sam.

SAMANTHA:

You’re hurt.

DAVID:

Where’s Ellie?

(repeat)

Samantha scans the shore line and then spots a freshly dug

grave near the fishing shake.

SAMANTHA:

Over here! -- Come on!

Samantha runs to the fresh grave, drops to her knees, and

starts to dig. David stumbles to his feet and over to the

grave.

DAVID:

(shock)

No.

(repeat)

David kneels beside Samantha and painfully digs. Together

they work faster and faster. The sun lingers on the horizon

behind them when they finally hit the pinewood box.

DAVID:

Ellie?

SAMANTHA:

Ellie!

They REPEAT her name as they dig the sand off the box.

David tries the lid. It won’t open, there’s still too much

sand and it’s heavy.

DAVID:

Watch out!

He grabs the shovel and goes to work and with in moments has

the box uncovered.

He grabs a claw hammer and works at pulling off the lid.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! Answer us please.

They pry off the lid and reveal ELLIE IN THE BOX.

92.

She’s covered in dirt, sweat, and can’t move. Her eyes are

open but fading. She is dying.

ELLIE:

(faded)

Mom.

SAMANTHA:

Hey baby.

Samantha moves the dirt off of Ellie’s face.

ELLIE:

I... I can’t move.

DAVID:

No.

(repeat)

David feels for vitals.

DAVID:

She’s barely alive. -- ELLIE WAKE

UP!

(repeat)

SAMANTHA:

Puffer fish! He used puffer fish to

paralyze her.

DAVID:

Tetrodotoxin?

He checks her vitals again.

DAVID:

We have to get her to a hospital!

We need to keep her breathing and

her heart pumping! -- COME ON!

With a painful groan, David picks up Ellie.

He walks about five steps and then collapses under the

weight.

SAMANTHA:

David!

He tries to stand again but he’s weak from his wound.

DAVID:

I have to... I’m not letting go.

(repeat as he tries to

stand)

93.

SAMANTHA:

David stop. STOP!

Samantha places a hand on David’s hand that grips Ellie’s

shirt in a fist.

They look into each other’s eyes.

DAVID:

I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. That I

ever hurt you. That I did what I

did and I was wrong, so wrong. -- I

should have been here protecting

you.

BEAT.

SAMANTHA:

David. -- It’s okay. I love you. -

You came for us. You saved us. --

Now let me carry her. Okay. Let me.

David slowly transfers Ellie to Samantha, and then with all

the strength she can muster, Samantha stands with Ellie.

Then with labored steps, Samantha walks toward the shore, and

into the water.

The water is knee deep at the boat.

EXT. 104 FISHING BOAT - DAY 104

DAVID:

I’ll get in and pull her up.

SAMANTHA:

Okay.

David climbs into the boat when a US Coast Guard HELICOPTER

PASSES OVER THEM.

DAVID:

HEY! Down here!

He waves as the helicopter flies pass.

DAVID:

(to Sam)

Come on! Let’s get her loaded. Help

is here.

David grabs Ellie from Samantha.

94.

SAMANTHA:

And UP!

They push/pull her into the boat.

EXT. BEACH 105 - SHORELINE - DAY 105

Ian slowly looks up and spots them loading Ellie onto the

boat. He also spots Javier floating out to see.

Ian hesitates wanting to help them with Ellie but realizes *

his tragic circumstance. With tears flooding his eyes, he *

runs away. *

106 INT. FISHING BOAT - DAY 106

Samantha lay Ellie onto the floor of the boat.

While David checks her vitals.

DAVID:

Her heart’s stopped.

(repeat)

CPR. We need to start CPR!

David goes to work pumping her chest and cries out in pain.

He can not perform CPR properly.

SAMANTHA:

David! Let me!

DAVID:

Okay. There.

He points to the spot she needs to pump.

SAMANTHA:

Okay.

Samantha performs the chest compressions.

DAVID:

Good just like that. Yes. Now

breathe! -- Come on Ellie! Come

back to us baby! Come on!

(repeat)

Samantha performs mouth to mouth. *

DAVID:

Stop!

Blue Rev. (02/05/18) 95.

David checks her vitals.

DAVID:

Go again. -- Ellie listen to me you

need to breath! Come on baby!

(repeat)

Samantha works on Ellie again performing chest compressions

and then mouth to mouth.

Just as Samantha lifts from her mouth to take another breath,

Ellie suddenly gasps for air and then coughs.

SAMANTHA:

Ellie! -- Thank god!

DAVID:

ELLIE!

ELLIE:

Mom. Dad? -- My arms feel really

heavy.

DAVID:

It’s okay. Just focus on breathing.

It’s okay.

SAMANTHA:

You’re alright. WE’VE got you and

we’re never letting go.

The three of them hug as a family.

A loud BOAT HORN followed by the sound of the helicopter

passing over head.

COAST GUARD:

(megaphone)

This is the coast guard. Please

stay where you are.

KYLE:

Thank GAWD.

They notice Kyle’s alive! He’s been sitting in the bow of the

boat, the radio in one hand, and the other covering the

bullet hole in his stomach.

KYLE:

About time these guys show up, I’ve

been calling them for what seems

like forever!

SAMANTHA:

(to David)

What is Kyle doing here?

96.

DAVID:

Long story.

SAMANTHA:

You should check him out.

DAVID:

Oh right.

SAMANTHA:

But first.

Samantha hugs David, and then gives him a long well deserved

passionate kiss.

SAMANTHA:

I love you. Now help your friend.

DAVID:

Hey I’m shot too you know.

She kisses him again.

David smiles, and then moves to help David as Sam pulls Ellie

into her arms and holds her tight.

EXT. COLLEGE 107 CAMPUS - DAY 107

A family car pulls up to the college campus and Samantha gets

out of the drivers seat and then David from the passenger and

then Ellie from the back seat.

SAMANTHA:

(to David)

I can’t believe our little girl has

finally grown up.

DAVID:

She’ll never call us I’m telling

you get busy with class and long

gone.

ELLIE:

Why do you guys always talk like

I’m not here?

They laugh and then give her a big group hug.

ELLIE:

Okay funny. I love you.

DAVID:

Love you too.

97.

SAMANTHA:

Love you three. -- Come on let’s

unload. I’m sure there’s some cool

Dorm parties happening tonight.

DAVID:

No there are not.

ELLIE:

Mom. -- Dad. Jeeze.

WE JIB AWAY FROM THEM.

SAMANTHA:

What? Don’t pretend, Ellie. I know

everything.

ELLIE:

You didn’t know how to sail.

SAMANTHA:

Well... You got me there, but my

third eye is on you sister. So you

better be good!

In the distance we see a young man watching the family.

CUT TO:

EXT. COLLEGE 108 CAMPUS - DAY 108

The young man wears Javier’s Aviator sunglasses, has black *

hair and a shirt with long sleeves. He turns around and we

see it’s Ian.

He stares. No smile. Not wavering. He pulls a backpack over

his shoulder and walks onto campus.
