Synopsis: Bookkeeper Jacob newest client is the talented and flamboyant actress Anne. They first meet each other on her houseboat, the morning after the premiere of Anne's new theatrical play. Jacob soon discovers that Anne has made a mess of her personal finances and that she has several debts. She may even have to sell her houseboat. Anne gets into a blind panic as she definitely has no intention to sell the boat where she has so many memories. Jacob becomes fascinated about Anne's world and is not concerned anymore with his own personal life and wife. Anne is trying to get money and is convinced that Jacob can save her financial mess. Despite Anne's plans and efforts, the boat must be sold by auction. During the evening of the auction, Anne has organized a big good-bye dinner and has invited all her colleagues and friend on the boat. When Jacob is about to inform Anne about how he wants to save Anne's houseboat (he has bought it himself for her), she comes up with a totally different plan..

...the administrative backlog

could develop a better system.

A better system...

Sounds like a superb plan, Jacob.

In the meantime

I'm going back to bed.

Have you worked here long?

-A very long time.

Since she played Nina

in The Seagull.

Right after she met Lex.

My doctor wants me to take it

a bit easier, but I do it for her.

She seems like

a special woman, huh?

I was planning to stop

at a certain moment. But, well...

...sometimes things happen

in a person's life...

...then you just can't

run out on someone.

Hey Nettie.

Five good reviews and one bad.

Anne's being praised to the stars.

I came to take a quick shower.

Where's she hiding?

Hi, I'm Luna.

-Jacob Meijer.

I thought you were finally

living with someone.

I was. But I ended it yesterday.

So I'm back to being showerless.

Hey Nettie. I thought

you went to Lourdes?

Lourdes? How wonderful.

No. Santiago de Compostela.

The reviews are stunning.

Where is she?

-Come over to Anne's.

We're making sushi.

Okay. 'Til later.

Oh, sorry. Didn't see you.

Hi, Joeri.

Jacob Meijer.

-Nettie, got a sharp knife I can use?

At that actress's place, yes.

Shouldn't take too much longer.

I'll be home as soon as I can.

She's awake and wants

a glass of wine. I'm off.

Isn't this fun? A bit like

the old days, when I was sick.

I can't make much of this one.

The Pasteuning company.

A deduction for 369 euro.

You must admit it's delightful.

I always assumed it fell

under... what's it called?

PR? No, I hardly think so,

Mrs Slot. Here's another one.

The Naughty Company, 426 euro.

Or do you think I'm more

the off-the-rack type?

Are you married?

Paula van der Oest

Paula van der Oest (born 1965) is a Dutch film director and screenwriter. Her 2001 film Zus & Zo was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. With her final exam at the Dutch Film and Television Academy, Zinderend, she won a Cannon Award in 1988. In the following years, she worked as an assistant director, until she returned in 1994 as a director. For the VPRO-series Lolamoviola she made the short movies Coma and Achilles en het zebrapad (Achilles and the Zebracrossing). With the first, she won a Golden Calf for the best television drama. In 1996 Van der Oest made her first long movie, De nieuwe moeder (The New Mother). Her husband at the time, Theu Boermans, had a role in this movie (later, he would also have a role in Zus & Zo). De trip van Teetje (the journey of Teetje) was produced in 1998, with Cees Geel as a louche entrepreneur who buys a Russian cargo ship. With Zus & Zo, loosely based on Chekhov's The Three Sisters, Van der Oest directed her first mainstream film in 2001. The realistic characters and the relations among the individuals from her former movies remained central, but there was more humour added, and an English script doctor made some changes, resulting in an Oscar nomination. However, the general public left the movie unseen. Hereafter she created the English thriller/fairytale Moonlight (2002) about the relation between a 13-year-old girl and a balloon swallower of the same age; the film Madame Jeannette, situated in the Suriname-community (which was a great success in the Amsterdam Bijlmer area in 2004); and the film Verborgen gebreken (2004), based on a book by Renate Dorrestein. Moonlight was entered into the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. In 2001, she wrote the screenplay for Meral Uslu's telefilm Roos and Rana. Currently, Paula van der Oest is planning a second film about Suriname and she is working on a movie based on Heleen van Royen's De gelukkige huisvrouw (The Happy Homemaker). more…
