The Libertine Page #2

Synopsis: The feature film The Libertine was incredibly difficult to make, from finding and retaining the incredible cast, to dealing with funding problems including an overnight tax law change in the U.K., to the daily grind of production on a tight budget. Capturing the Libertine asks the question, "If it's this difficult to make independent films, why do it?"

MAURICE:

-I'm a victim of baseless accusation.

EDITH:

drops the pen on the table with a satisfied grin.

Maurice walks over to the collage and stares at it.

His eyes wander to a PICTURE of him in a New York perp walk.

He has a slight paunch in the photo.

Maurice looks down and sucks in his gut. He holds it for a

second then exhales.

Maurice flops onto the couch and opens his LAPTOP. He tapsthe top of the laptop, too distracted to work. He closes

the laptop. He looks bored.

JAQUELINE (V.O.)

That's for the jury to decide. I

will say I don't let my friends nearthat snake.

Maurice picks up his PHONE and dials.

MAURICE:

Pig. Snake. Stop mixing metaphors.

(talking into phone)

Edith, thank you for not picking up.

I didn't want to talk to you either.

Jaqueline's at it again. Will youcall her?

Maurice hangs up the phone.

JAQUELINE (V.O.)

I think one of the great things aboutyour country, and why I am happy tobe studying here, is that you callyour leaders to task on their sexualmisconduct. You end their careers.

We need more of that in Europe.

HOST (V.O.)

Let's get back to your mother, apersonal hero and a feminist icon.
