Philadelphia script
Philadelphia (1993)
Synopsis: Fearing it would compromise his career, lawyer Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) hides his homosexuality and HIV status at a powerful Philadelphia law firm. But his secret is exposed when a colleague spots the illness's telltale lesions. Fired shortly afterwards, Beckett resolves to sue for discrimination, teaming up with Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), the only lawyer willing to help. In court, they face one of his ex-employer's top litigators, Belinda Conine (Mary Steenburgen).

His back turned momentarily to the JUDGE, Andrew mouths to

"Not bad." But he whips around, serious again:

Your Honor, Counselor is

attempting to portray my client

as a hideous manifestation of

evil and corruption. But

nothing could be further from

the truth. Rockwell has

generously contributed ten

thousand dollars to this

neighborhood's schools, clinics

and youth centers! Granting a

restraining order on the

construction site will throw

hundreds of Philadelphians out

of work, and will lend

validation to this contemptible

and groundless nuisance suit,

which speaks directly to the

kind of greed and treachery that

today is threatening the very

fabric of our society.

Judge Tate looks skeptically at both lawyers.

Let's not go off the deep end,

gentlemen. I thought we were

talking about some dust.
