Pacific Rim Page #2

Synopsis: When monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

three miles east?

McTIGHE:
No! It's two miles, sir.

One mile, sir!

It's getting closer.

1ST OFFICER:
How the hell...

...can it be getting closer?

(RADAR BEEPING RAPIDLY)

Kaiju.

(GROWLING)

Harder starboard!

Turn her around!

Now!

(ROARING)

1ST OFFICER:
Oh, God!

MAN 1:
What the hell?

(MEN SHOUTING INDISTINCTLY)

MAN 2:
Hang on!

AI:
Ship secure.

- Adjust the torque!

- I'm on it.

Torque locked.

(BOTH GRUNTING)

Get him. Come on.

- Shoot him.

YANCY:
I'm on it! I'm on it!

(SCREECHING)

TENDO:
Discharge reading, sir.

Plasma cannon in the shallow shelves...

...seven miles off the coastal line.

- Gipsy...

...what the hell is going on?

- Job's done, sir.

Lit it up twice. Bagged our fifth kill.

- You disobeyed a direct order!

YANCY:
Respectfully, sir...

...we intercepted a Kaiju...

...and saved everyone...

- ...on that boat.

- Get back to your post. Now!

Yes, sir.

Kaiju signature rising!

That thing's still alive, sir.

Gipsy!

We're still getting a signature!

That Kaiju is still alive!

Grab the boat and get out of there.

You copy?

Grab the boat

and get out of there now!

(BOTH GRUNTING)

YANCY:
Take it, Raleigh!

RALEIGH:
I got this!

(SCREAMING)

YANCY:
Loccent, we're hit!

(COMPUTER BEEPING)

Left arm's...

...gone cold, sir.

RALEIGH:
The hull! It

went through the hull!

Raleigh, listen to me!

You need... Aah!

No!

No!

(GRUNTING)

AI:
Loading.

(SCREAMS)

Second discharge fried all the comms,

sir. I'm not getting any signals.

No signatures, sir.

What do we do now, sir?

MAN:
Now, I want you to keep your eye

on that gauge there.

Now, you know what I'd like to find?

I'd like to find a whole ship.

That's what I'd like to find.

Wait, wait! Wait, wait,

wait, wait, wait! Wait!

Right there, right there! Dig!

Hey, what is it?

It's just an old toy.

We never find anything good.

MAN:
Listen.

(BEEPING AND WAVERING)

Oh, my God.

(CREAKING)

(POWERING DOWN)

Stay here!

(PANTING)

Mister?

Can I help?

RALEIGH:
Yancy.

Yancy.

Run! Get help, fast!

It's gonna be all right.

(INAUDIBLE DIALOGUE)

MAN:
The Kaiju are learning our defenses.

They're adapting. Evolving.

And we're losing Jaegers faster

than we can build them.

Lima.

Seattle.

Vladivostok.

Category 4 Kaijus...

(OVER MONITOR)

...are now coming through the Breach.

I think even you can see,

marshal, this is no longer...

...a sound strategy.

The frequency of the attacks

has increased.

The Jaegers are not the most viable

line of defense anymore.

PENTECOST:
I am aware.

Those are my rangers that die...

...every time a Jaeger falls...

...which is why I'm asking you...

...for one last chance.

BRITISH UN REP:
Excuse me, marshal.
