OVER BLACK:

PO (V.O.)

Every Human Being has a destiny.

FADE IN:

EXT. STREET - DAY

A young man is walking down the street, with a backpack on

his back, torn up shoes, and a look that says he could get

through anything. This is PO (18).

PO (V.O.)

And no matter what anyone tells

you, it can't be taken away.

INT. PO'S BEDROOM - DAY - ANOTHER TIME

Po sits in his small bedroom. There are no beds, simply two

mattresses sitting on the ground. A few movie posters

decorate the wall, and a dresser which is presumably full of

clothes stands in the corner. Po sits on his mattress,

holding a small boy who we'll come to know as Po's Brother;

DAVID (5). They both appear frightened. Po has his hands over

David's ears protecting him from the torment that can be

heard outside Po's bedroom door. Domestic abuse.

PO (V.O.)

But that doesn't mean that a

destiny can't be shared with

another destiny.

INT. BALLROOM - DAY - FANTASY

Po dances with a girl in a beautiful Ball Room. Po is at the

happiest point in his life. We don't get a good look at the

face of the girl Po is dancing with.

The music is classic ballroom music. In good timing with the

music, Po dips the girl. He smiles. This is the perfect

picture of a shared destiny.

PO (V.O.)

But that doesn't make it easy.

INT. PO'S LIVING ROOM - DAY

Po opens the front door to his house, and walks inside. This

is the living room; small, one coffee table in front of two

couches that should have been replaced years ago. A small TV

at the front of the room. The walls are painted white, made

ugly by the scuff marks all over all four walls. There are no

decorations.

Po lays his bag against the wall near the door, then walks

over and sits on the couch closest to the door.

Po pulls something out of his pocket; a REPORT CARD. He

smiles at it.

Almost as if on que, his MOM (who we'll know as Mary) yells

to him.

MARY (O.S.)

Po! Come here, and bring your

report card!

Po gets off of the couch, and walks toward the door to the

basement.

INT. PO'S BASEMENT - DAY - CONTINUOUS

The door to the basement swings open and Po walks down the

stairs.

The basement is also small, and unfinished. Everything is on

shelves, so compact that it looks like none of these things

have been used in a while.

Po sees his mother, MARY (45) near the back wall. She is

attempting to get the washer machine running. She has already

put duck-tape over the lid, and due to the two large rolls of

it on the nearby shelf, it seems that that is a necessity

when it comes to using the washer. She sighs.

MARY:

PO!!!

Po jumps.

PO:

Jesus. I'm right here.

She turns around to see him. That's when we see that Mary has

bruises on her skin, but she does her best to hide them with

make-up. She smiles at Po. Looks down at the report card in

his hand.

MARY:

Let me see that.

Po hands it to her. Her smile drops, expecting the worst. We

get the sensation he doesn't usually do very well.

After Mary looks at it for a second, Po smiles. Mary looks up

at him.

MARY (CONT’D)

You didn't fail anything!

PO:

Yeah... Apparently, when I study, I

get "B"s.

Mary smiles, handing the report card back to Po.

MARY:

I got a call from the school today.

PO:

Crap. I swear to God, it wasn't me.

Mary gives him a strange look.

MARY:

We'll talk about that later. The

school called me to tell me that

you guys are being let out early

tomorrow to prepare for the school

dance at Seven.

Po nods slightly. Mary grins.

MARY (CONT’D)

Did you know about this?

Po sighs.

PO:

Yep.

MARY:

And you didn't say anything?!

PO:

I don't wanna go.

MARY:

Po, you're eighteen years old. It's

time you start looking for a wife.

Po laughs.

PO:

Why?

MARY:

To give me grandchildren!

She slaps him lightly on the side of the head.

PO:

I'm glad you're fine with me having

children before finishing high

school, but I'm not ready for that.

Or a wife.

He smiles. Mary's smile fades.

MARY:

(quietly)

When you find one, treat her well.

Po hugs his mother.

PO:

I love you, Mom.

INT. PO'S BEDROOM - NIGHT - LATER

A clock dings, signaling seven O'Clock.

Po's brother, David (as seen in the beginning), runs through

the room. He shouts things in childlike glee, never happier.

Po barges into the room, grinning. He picks up David, who

squeals.

PO:

David!

He runs around the room, with David in his arms. David

pretends to fly like he's Superman.

Po sets David down on a mattress, and Po sits on the other

one.

PO (CONT’D)

Good day?

DAVID:

Yes.

PO:

What'd you do?

DAVID:

We talked about what we want to do

when we grow up. What'd you do at

school?

PO:

We talked about Einstein's "Theory

of Relativity".

DAVID:

What's that?

PO:

I have no idea.
